Exclamation iDrive Failed 4 Times

I need some advice on how to handle my situation. My iDrive hard drive has failed for the 4th time and its getting ridiculous now. The first time the hard drive failed and my head unit was replaced under warranty. When the drive fails navigation will be stuck on starting and USB/Bluetooth wont work.

The second time my warranty ended so the dealer did a "good will" for me and payed half of the cost to replace the head unit.

The third time the dealer opened up a case and bmw said my USB flash drive caused the hard drive to fail so I had to pay $2,300 to replace the unit.

Now the fourth time bmw hasn't made a decision yet but the shop tech's are telling me that bmw might blame it on my car being coded!!! Keep in mind my head unit isn't coded just the side marker lights and side mirrors fold.

I don't know what to do from here and its pissing me off now.

are you using the same Flash Drive again? I would get it fixed for the last time and buy a brand new flash disk this time just to eliminate the culprits of the failure

I stopped using flash drive and imported all of my music onto the hard drive after it failed the third time.

4 failures of the iDrive unit are 3 more than a factory defect. You can count on BMW telling you again that you have to pay for a new unit. Time for an NBT Evo retrofit instead...

Hmm, I'd start looking at either power or some other signaling in the car causing the head unit to fail.

If it's OOW, can you leverage a 3rd party replacement or retrofit, on the off-chance something in your driving habits or environment aren't mixing with a spinning HDD. Maybe give an SSD a shot?
