+1 and also I'd just like to hear the mechanics I'm paying $80k for - that's part of paying for this art.

Unfortunately it's gotten to the point where for the US market they have to use special differential oil because otherwise it will make a sound and people will bring it in to their dealer.

In other words we've crossed into Oz ... most drivers didn't grow up close to mechanical things and/or raw cars - so now BMW has to eliminate all of the real sounds and generate fake sounds.

But don't try to tell anyone you're not getting 6 MT
Pretty sure you're agreeing with me, but if you are a heretic and are getting the DCT, I don't want any part of you!

Enough of the stupid debate. Can we get back to the original question. For individuals that want the active sound deactivated, is it possible and how?

Huh, I was going to call you an idiot and lazy for not reading the thread, because it was answered (by both myself and others) much earlier in the thread.

However, it appears I owe you a pre-emptive apology, because it looks like multiple posts in this thread (that specifically answered your question) have been deleted by moderators, likely because we veered into the territory of who could do such coding.

TL;DR version: Yes, it can be done, any further discussion of how it is done is likely to get deleted. Take a look at one of the coding threads for more details.

Don't worry! With ActiveSound it will sound just like I'm shifting

I'd code the sound out. I heard it in action and its not bad at all. Also read somewhere the amplification is only like 4% fake? Even then, I like my music and I don't want it to interfere with anything else that works with speakers. From another view, supposedly the system is moot if you get M performance exhaust. Its defintely one of those things that I would remove because it doesn't add anything.

Didn't they say that the active sound was just a mic pushing exhaust noise into the cabin through the speakers? I didn't realize it was actually fake noise made by a computer. I just remember seeing an interview somewhere where the head designer (or someone important) saying something like that, not that it was fake. Not 100 percent sure, so def correct me if I'm wrong.

Thx...interesting video. So, our LEDs here don't have the same functionality (without coding)?

Correct, I can't say Texas for sure but I know it's not allowed in CA. I believe it's all of USA tbh if I remember correctly

And is it also correct to say that coding this would do nothing for standard Xenon lights?

There have been multiple threads on the ability to code LED headlights. Please leave this thread for discussion on coding active sound

Here's the link to the previous thread, and within it is another link (post #2) with a list of all code-able features:

I am still interested to hear feedback from someone who has coded off the Active Sound - is there a noticeable difference?

Thanks

I think your right. Wish I wasn't as "cheap" and had more time to wait. I would have done moonstone also. Get some good video of it when it comes in. Getting quality pics of moonstone seems to be as tough as photographing big foot.

Listening to my car with a keen ear was a way of life for 10 years ... Maybe if I grew up without that or with more video games or something I'd feel different.

But hey, there's people that don't care and clearly BMW knows that. I'm not one of them.
+1000!
Listening to my car is so I important to me as well.
