No boost or power - data log added - need help

Hi Team,

I am having a problem throwing code 20A201 - pump running dry code and subsequently it pulls all boost and throws 120408. To be clear, it is not throwing warning lights on the dash, just when I pull codes in BM3.

this started last weekend at the track and ended my day early. Power was pulled, no codes on the dash.
the reservoir was full but when I ran the bleed procedure the pump wouldn't circulate any fluid.

I bought a new pump, installed, filled, ran bleed procedure, everything went good. I clear the codes, reset adaptations through BM3. Go for a drive and throw the codes again and back to square one.

I spoke to Bimmerworld when ordering the part and they said there are no other sensors in the system other than the pump.

I also have a new Wagner intercooler so its not a leaky cooler.

What am I missing here? Is there another reset I need to do?

I bled the system about 4 more times and have still not been able to fix the issue. Codes now show as inactive in bootmod, no lights on the dash...but I am still not making any power.

I dont think its a leaking charge pipe because I would hear the whoosh of leaking air on throttle and thats not whats its doing. its not spoooling up at all.

Not really familiar with the electronics on the f8x but I have a feeling its not my charge air system anymore. any suggestions?

Still working to diagnose my no boost situation. I have reset codes and got out to drive a bit and its now throwing 120308 - boost pressure control, pressure too low.

I also smoke tested the charge side and it looks like I have a leak on the front turbo inlet where it is also leaking some oil. Not seeing any leaks post turbo. Would this oil leak be indicative of a blown turbo?

Anyone else have to deal with this code?

I think I figured it out...

rear turbo

front turbo

front downpipe

share pic online

Not sure what caused this. i did about 12 track sessions this summer. car has 72,000 km or about 40,000 miles. My charge cooler failed back in mid July so I am thinking maybe enough coolant leaked into the turbo that when I stepped on it the exhaust wheel was trying to spin while the compressor was taking a swim

I think its time to go single turbo on the F80!

Tuning caused this issue, and you were lucky with the breakage, the turbine broke just after the oil seal, otherwise you would have the exhaust full of oil

What makes you think tuning was the issue? Not saying that's not true, just curious. I mostly run a torque reduced/flattened tune. When you look at the logs its mostly calling for 14 pounds +/-.

TD04 turbine shaft of S55

TD04HL turbine shaft

As you can see, turbine wheel together with the shaft of s55 is weaker, tuned it greatly affects the durability.

I have seen 5 same cases to yours and they were all tuned.

Thank you, that is a great visual! The tuner offered no help in diagnosing when I couldn't find a charge side leak. When I spoke to Mike at 4n a broken wheel was the first thing he said...just like you said he has seen a pile of them too.

I think I am going to go with the 4n efr kit to maintain factory ewg control.

Tuners are only interested the first time when they have to get paid

Good choice on single turbo.
