Anyone here run the Madtrace / JQWerks DCT paddle shifters?
Been curious about these… does the clicking sound get annoying after a while?

Yes, the clicking is SUPER annoying IMO. You'll need to modify them to tone it down. Here's my take:

I’ll probably hold off until they come out with a V2. The sound was quite irritating on videos so I’m sure I’d get tired of the clicking using it everyday.

That was a pretty damn good review and I agree with most of the points said. The sound upon paddle returning to neutral position is pretty loud. However I drive with my window down and music playing and it doesn't bother me too much. However given the choice to reduce the noise, I would do so.
I also don't think the carbon paddles feel that great. The resin doesn't feel smooth and the edges of the paddles have no resin on it and it feels rough. I ordered the aluminum paddles and while painted silver, doesn't have that nice smooth finish that the M, AMG, PDK cars have. It has a textured feel to it. Because of that I didn't even install my aluminum paddles even though my purchase was with the intention to use them. Maybe these can be sandblasted and powdercoated? Idk. Despite the flaws, I think that it is satisfying enough to keep on the car. I don't think the sound of the paddle bothers me as much as both the carbon and aluminum paddles feeling....cheap for lack of better term. I'm probably going to try to find a solution to make the aluminum paddles feel smooth like OEM. |

I feel like this is trying to solve an issue that doesn't exist. I use my paddles all the time and have never been bothered by the sound of it. Now that I think about it I don't even recall hearing anything. I'm away from the car rn but I'll try to see what yall talking about tonight.

Honestly if I were to upgrade paddles, I might do the G80 paddles. Seems like it’s plug and play according to this thread: https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1862365

I do - purely as a track focused mod; love the tactility and accuracy on track. Don’t really care about the sound, it’s more about the feel and reducing the possibility of an accidental double shift. In season I’m going about 1-2x a month.
That’s said I would not run these if I didn’t track frequently. They’re incredibly annoying on a purely street driven car - pull weight and noise don’t make sense. As soft as the stock shifters are, they are much easier to live with and street driving doesn’t really need the extra tactility these provide. I’ve learned to shift these relatively quietly, but it takes some practice. Also, these move the paddles closer to the steering column stalks, so your fingers will brush against the stalks every now and then. Edit: let me caveat my post by saying that I never drive in automatic mode so I’m always interacting with the paddles. The extra-ness of these paddles might be acceptable for those who reserve the paddles only for fun.

You can open up the housing and add some foam tape to reduce the noise. Made a couple videos to illustrate...
Stock vs. added to back housing only, removes the "clack": https://www.youtube.com/shorts/eA0TBBH9ISE Added to back housing vs. adding to both sides, removes the "click" and "clack": https://www.youtube.com/shorts/Iy043CsXkb8 At this point, it's basically just the sound from the button on the PCB engaging. Reducing noise is at the expense of paddle travel. Foam taping on both sides - there's very minimal travel at that point. |

It is pretty loud that it gets annoying at the point that I wanted to sell it. Once I added some padding it made it alot better. The quality and fitment is excellent.
Its pretty simple to open up. You remove the 4 torxs (two on top and two on the bottom) and add the padding/tesa tape. Last edited by ucrhamann330ci; 02-24-2023 at 10:33 AM.. |

Chiming in here.
I added some painters tape (lol) to the magnetic components and it cut down on the loudness of the clicks substantially. Also the fit and finish of the larger carbon paddle is meh 6/10. I swapped over to the two smaller paddles and they feel slightly more refined like 8/10. Just my thoughts, running them for probably 100 miles now.

Did you have to remove the unit from the steering wheel to modify? I’m thinking I’ll add some 1mm felt tape to dampen it.
Love the feel but the click is too loud. Almost a clunk bordering on thunk. |

Having it on the steering wheel is easier to modify/open. The magnets are so strong that it was almost impossble to pull apart.

FWIW there is a good sale on these now.
https://mashimarho.com/products/jqwe...40018685886563 or https://jqwerks.com/products/jq-werk...bmw-mini-supra Apparently they have a new version that is reach and angle adjustable now. |

Just me but the reach and angle feel perfect. I did remove the rear housings with the 4x T8 screws and I applied 1mm felt tape squares to the magnets to reduce the click volume. 1 for pull and 1 for release on each unit.
They are absolutely amazing now! |

The magnetic paddles are great. I've had them for a couple months now and don't have a single complaint. I love the sure shifts, and the clicking isn't even noticed any longer. If anything they make everything feel more solid, super well engineered. They're a great addition to the car!

Only real criticism is adjust-ability and price. Both of which have changed.
The old one is $359 now https://jqwerks.com/products/jq-werk...bmw-mini-supra The new one is adjustable and still cheaper than the original price. https://jqwerks.com/products/jq-werk...bmw-mini-supra Well I guess I wish the longer paddles were a little less curved at the top so the range stays constant. Eh. If you don't like the sound you can quiet them down fairly easy, but IMHO they should have included a square of felt and instructions in the box. |
