I really hate that line along the front of the hood. Would it have been that hard to extend the hood to the grills or beyond like in the e92/e46?
I like pretty much everything else but that is one big eyesore to me! Looks like I'm not alone!! |

What really sucks is that with the headlights now connected to the grille, there could have been no hood line at all. Missed opportunities...

I think I'm liking the e92 better, overall. The hood line on the new M4 is just atrocious. I can't help but stare at it every time I see these photos. It's almost like a black hole, it sucks light in and the life out of the car. I don't like the new design language with merging the headlights into the kidney grills. Sorry, E92 wins and I wont' even get into the NA vs. FI mess. Wifey likes the new M4 and I want to pick up CPO M3 maybe next year. It will be interesting to see which side wins.

Why not just do what they did on the e46 and incorporate the kidneys into the hood?

OK, at the risk of being overly picky perhaps, is it only me but why do the M3/4 cars persist with exposing those ugly exhaust cans (I am not referring to the exhaust tips) at the rear? Really seems bizarre to me and currently has a bit of a lame boy racer appeal. A simple curved extension of the rear diffuser would completely hide the unfinished cans and make the car's rear look so much better - hell even if they painted the things black like Remus offers it would look better. Have my heart set on the M4 cabrio but this will be one of the first mods i'll do! Shallow maybe but after all the options etc. a near $80k car should not have this issue imo.

Overall I like the new M4. Except for the nose and hood that is. There is something that just does not flow well. The nice connection between the hood and the kidney grill that is there on both the E46 and the E92 is gone. Blame the horrible hood line and the additional character lines on the hood. On the E46 and E92 the single character line made a nice connection from the greenhouse to the kidney grills. On the F82, the twin charter lines don't seem to connect anything. Further, the opening between the headlights and the kidney grills just amplifies this disconnect.
I love the rear of the car though, nice, wide stance. |

It's too bad this upcoming M3/M4 birthed in this kind of economy and go green era. I wonder what differences it would have if it were born without that in mind. I'm still convinced under the hood at least would be "bigger." Anyway, the M4 looks great, don't really mind the hood line much. Cant wait to see the M3 Concept!
Oh and does anyone else feel the Concept will be saved as a Comp Package in a yea or two and the Civic M4 will be toned down?? Just like how they did with the E92 Concept.

Except for the wheels, the E92 concept was pretty much identical to the production "civic" M3. |

This comparison is interesting--I like the concept, but comparing it to the E92 and E46, now it seems a bit "busy" to me...
Still nice looking, but simple might be better...we shall see how it progresses
