I will say the ZCP suspension is softer, 100%. My wife drives it in sport with the 20s and doesn't even notice vs the non-CP 2015 on 19s which got complaints every single time.

Anyway, the 2018 is just a much better car than the 2015. There are lots of little things I like less (I swear they changed the gear ratios), but more that I like more.
If they changed the gear ratio's that would be easy to tell on a drive or reading magazine info on gearing.

Maybe they're just limiting torque in the first two gears?

I'm not smart enough to know, but, for example, I used to cruise on the freeway at 80mph easily in 4th, flip to 3rd for passing. Now 4th feels a bit too low and suddenly I realize I'm somehow in 5th. In 3 years I've never found myself in 5th in my 2015, but now in the 2018 it happens all of the time.

and it's annoying because 5th is too high. So 3rd/4th/5th seems different at higher speeds.

If changing gear ratios means changing transmission internal component, I doubt it.
BMW wouldn't change major hardware (turbos, transmission, suspension geometry, chassis etc) like changing underwear.

Could easily be done with a rear gear change and get the same effect...

To change gear ratios you can change the gears themselves in the gear box, all proportionally or tweak each gear...

Or you go to the rear diff and change the final drive ratio which allows you to either shorten or lengthen the gears, but instead of having the ability to change individual gears you move the whole ratio so all gears are impacted, the spread between the gears stays the same in terms of engine RPM, but you'll either get more or less MPH out of each gear depending on which direction you go with the diff.

Why do you cruise at 80mph in 4th gear? Seems like a huge waste of gas. You could simply downshift if you need more power then go back to top gear for efficiency.

If I didn't get honked or flashed at least 3 times per run, then I failed.

I must be not up to speed, but didn't you trade your AY M3 for a GTI or something? I see you've now moved on to X5. I think we're all screwed up man.

FYI, gear ratios and final drive have not changed over the F8X lifespan.

Hell, they even kept the F1X M5/6 gear ratios for the M3/4. They only made the final drive shorter, rendering 1st gear completely useless.

Our roads here aren't the greatest...is it as simple as swapping wheels or is the suspension in the comp pack tuned for the 20 inchers?

Edit: Also, I've read that the comp pack allows the car to handle its power better, but it just seems there's less torque in the first couple gears...
Will the comp pack have the 666 wheels? if so that stinks... not a fan they look like gucci fancy jewels. Much prefer the "track look" of the M3 CS wheels.

Hopefully BMW will change it up?

you can choose the 437M or 666M wheels it's not a MUST to have the 666M Wheels when ordering an M3/M4 with the Competition Packaage

Oh and if you think they look like Gucci fancy jewels, you need to have your eyes checked coz it seems to me you don't like' em coz you don't have 'em from the childish way you describe them. I would never give such stupid names to any rim, car, color. There are options to suite different tastes. What looks bad to you might look like heaven to others.

Your best bet is to order black 666m with comp pack and separately purchase 763m (CS) wheel tire package from discount bmw retailer for about 4-5k and easily flip the guccis for about 3k lol.

You can upgrade for less than 2k if your willing to do legwork

This is a good call. If it comes to that point I might consider doing that!

Didnt intent to hurt your feelings on wheel comments. To me the 666 do look like shiny jewels, just an opinion. Many may take that as a complement!

I (not everybody) prefer a motorsport car to look more track focused like the CS wheels. Thus my hope they stick with the CS wheels on the M2 comp.

YMMV...

You can get the 19s instead (no credit and only in Black).

I did not care for the look of the 20s (look like they are oversized and sticking out like a mis-sized aftermarket wheel - and even worse on that M2 pic). And yes, thats my personal thoughts. Oh and they ride much worse than the 19s and/or 18s (that part is fact).

I also dont think they are as easy to sell as everyone says and I know you cant sell them if you lease.

I was thinking that as well. I see comments all the time that you can easily sell them for $3k...really? Thats a ton of money for oem wheels.

They were easy to sell when they were new. The novelty has since wore off and the for sale forum is flooded with them. There's a new thread weekly.

$3k for OEM 20's would not surprise me at all. In fact, OEM brings in more money than aftermarket many times. It would shock me at all to see a set sell for $3k+ on eBay to the right buyer
