Am I correct in my assumption that no one is comparing the ZF AWD version against the DCT F82?
You'd be correct. No AWD models apply yet. The G8X in the Motor Trend article was compared to their 2018 DCT ZCP M with CCB's, so it was a fairly apples to apples comparison.

Sometimes things seem like signs of fate to me and this post hits very close to home. I was out picking up some chicken wings a week or so ago and a guy pulled up in his blue 2020 STI and I was enamored by it. So much that I actually stopped him and asked him questions for a few minutes. Always liked them since I was younger but by the time I could afford nice cars I jumped that level completely.

I almost went to go drive one now after that interaction and your post...Do you think a rear facing car seat would fit in it well?

I/we may not always agree and some discussions get heated, but there's no reason for me to dislike anybody here. We are all car dudes & dudettes in the end.

Agreed! I'll force the Beav' on you guys one way or another.

Great post. I am an old man now so I dont go kick tires in parking lots for meets like I used to but that was mostly just a bunch of guys sitting around talking smack. Is that not the case anymore? Is it all just hand holding, rainbows, and butterflies at meets?

To me the forums are new age tire kicking but I guess some guys just cant handle it.

The STI has more rear seat room than the F80 M3. Absolutely no problem. The STI's interior is ergonomic witchcraft.

I encourage you to test drive one, but you must be aware of a few things, because it's not all 100% rosy. It is a Subaru after all.

I started writing my thoughts and then it became a novel, so in respect to everyone else, I will PM you instead of derailing this thread

Once available from the aftermarket, I will add a carbon fiber rear diffuser and a front lip.
Seeing that you're such a big GT3 fanboy, I would think you should save your money and get that instead. Seems like a huge compromise getting a G82 when you are already planning to "fix" the looks of the thing when you take delivery. I would rather see you in your dream car then go this route.

I've pondered what you're suggesting. There's so much more to preparing for Porsche ownership that merely acquiring the car. The maintenance, the insurance, etc. It's not the easiest transition. I make really good money, but I'm not rolling in dough.

This will likely be my last M car. I'll have my commuter and bike paid off by the time the G8X lease is up. That'll free up another $720 a month. Add that to the $1000 car payment and I'll start venturing into used Porsche GT3 car payment territory. I'll be a bit more prepared for the insurance and maintenance aspect as well.

Yup, I hear ya. Actually, you called out a few things why Porsche turned me off from the get go and why I've never been a real fan. They are great cars, but the compromises (not performance wise) is what makes me think why people flip these cars a lot. The same could be said of any M car, but not to the same degree. But at least you know what you're getting yourself into haha

Yeah I called it out a few pages ago. The 670hp at least. Real question tho where is that useful on the street? My F80 had 600whp and I couldnt enjoy it on the street at all.

On the PCar front.. a GT3 is amazing but in reality you could spend $140k on a 992 C2S and have an amazing car and all you'll ever really "need". Thats what I would buy if I was going PCar these days.

I can't even exploit my stock engined F82 on the street, so I agree with you there. Thankfully I have a racetrack 15 minutes away (...although I mainly choose to track my bike when I attend).

My insurance is less on my 911 than on M3.
Maintenance is similar to M cars imo.

I don’t really see any compromise besides higher purchase price and 911 is not as DD friendly compared to M3/4.

Ppl flip Porsches bec you can pretty much get back what u paid especially if its a GT3......always chasing the next big thing. Most of the owners have multiple 911s as they really serve different purpose depending on the model.

Do people really leave those high HP tunes on when they track? I mean I assume its a "boost controller" not a flash tune so isn't that kinda sketchy to track on a new 80k car?

So the difference MT to MT is 83kg or 183lb based on the figures between the F80 and G80.

On another note:
I dropped by the local BMW dealer to get my car serviced for its end of warranty check.

1. Had a 330i as a loaner. Interesting experience to say the least; the Sport button piped in a deep growly faux V8 noise that had me chuckling. I kept lowering the windows to see if the engine actually sounded like that.

2. Thoughts on the new gauges in BMWs. I like the map display in the console, but everything else, won't miss it. After 5 days with car, I felt that the level of electronics in today's cars are too excessive (BMW is not the only guilty party here). These electronic displays don't age well with time, especially when the design language is not along classic dials etc.

3. The size just plain surprised me. I've seen plenty of 330s in the wild, but seeing the car up close, initially, I thought they had loaned me a 5 series! It's been said again how big cars have gotten but the Gx is more 5 than 3.

4. Oomph was not bad. Call it mid 5s 0-60, but crazily, I have an Accord as a DD and after 5 days, I prefer the feel of the Accord. Something about the steering and feedback makes the car feel a little too artificial.

5. 47K for the car. GPS, no cameras, no M package etc, which would put it around 50ish. If you were a enthusiast, you'd be silly to consider one when F80s are around 50 and most of the depreciation has been taken.

That's a good question. There's such a myriad of cars there in various states of tune that it's difficult to tell.

I’m a tad bit skeptical about these weights, when I re-read the articles referenced, there is no where in which they mention if or how they weighed the F8X. 3646 w/ CCBs doesn’t sound right - mine on corner scales was 3660 w/ 3/4 of a tank, steel brakes, and random stuff in the trunk (shoes, clothes, etc) - so likely 3646 or less w/ 1/2 tank and everything cleared out. A member also weighed what I would consider an equivalent G8X to mine at 3767 with 1/8 tank, so calculated w/ 1/2 tank would be 3,800. Difference of about ~150lbs.

Basically the discrepancy here is the ~25lbs that would be related to CCBs on F8X, and why at a glance I thought they were using a loaded steel brake F8X. I guess we just gotta wait til someone can get both cars on the same scale on the same day

I will say the G80 overall design has grown on me a bit aside from the anus and the grill. Its worlds better than the G82 but I felt that way about the F80 and F82 as well. There are some angles on the G80 where the side of the rear end looks really good and aggressive. If it had an M340i front end I would probably buy one.

Just saw this for the first time, so sorry if it's a repost. But can we take a moment to appreciate how much better this looks?! And this is WITH the current BMW design language that I still have issues with - so a production friendly version could easily be fit onto the current G22s and G8Xs. Obviously it won't but it's nice to day-dream

Wow that really does change the look and makes it look much better, and honestly more aggressive due to not having the overbite that is the grills intersecting the lower intake. Those grills, a proper and sharper hoff kink (like the last 4GC's) and some great EV specs would make a great car.
