I've never considered one car to be a stepping stone to "move up" to another car. I've owned a lot of cars, and I like to experience different cars that peak my interest.
That being said, you could consider my F80 M3 to have been a serious downgrade from my previous car which was a 2017 NSX. I wanted a fun, four door car and I always wanted an M3. Plus being able to get on with three pedals was the sealed the deal.

Moving on to an ordered M5 comp scheduled to arrive at port on 5/7. No way I could stomach new M3/4 with that snout regardless of the performance.

M5 and M8 are not really an "upgrade" as much as a change, you're trading away sportyness for luxury.
Yes they're f**king fast. But there's a lot less 'feel' and they're not as agile. Amazing cars nonetheless. Just, IMO, not for the same kind of person as the M3/4 |

C8 is not my favorite design wise. I really like the C7 Z06 front end along with that bulky ass.

GT4 price is not bad at all at around $125-130k for decent spec.
Especially compared to GT3 prices or even a regular new 911 S. Unlike BMW M cars, Porsche does a great job controlling/limiting 911 production which keeps these cars very desirable even once they are used. So yes there is higher price for entry, but realistically you will not lose more than 20-30% in depreciation on regular 911 and for GT3s you will almost not lose anything at all. The used 991.2 GT3s are going for msrp or over and they have around 10k miles on them. |

Need to have a manual. So maybe a Cayman? Or a V8 AM Vantage? Both slower overall but not slugs either. And the AM is gorgeous styling.

RMN is correct.
As Porsche has mentioned, their average for MSRP on cars are around 25k or so for options. The new 992 GT3 will be close to 190k for most option wise. Compared to the 718 GT4/Spyder, you are looking at about 125k give or take for a well optioned car. Both are NA Flat Six engines but the 718 are smaller, mid engine and personally the best looking car in the world at the moment. I'm dumb though as mine is a "bit" over that price point but I'm not really planning on getting rid of my car either so I didn't mind. Now the soon to be GT4 RS price, rumored about 130k base MSRP is a bit harder to swallow personally. At that point with options you are at the heels of the GT3 MSRP, not to mention adding in ADM.
