Good to know - just looked it up, looks like a fresh rebrand

I believe his comment was referring to mine about switching from Motul Xcess Gen 2 to Motul Sport which looks to have been rebranded to 8100 Power (all the marketing lines up): https://www.motul.com/es/en/products/8100-power-5w-40

I called Motul after trying to find the sport for a few months of it being back ordered through fcp. The engineer or tech rep from motul told me about the rebranding.

It’s easy to ship oil you bought from fcp back to them for store credit.

This is my next process 14:07. Switching to Motul anyway because of this.

Thanks for all of you guys input but because I live the great white north I decided to go to bmw dealer and bought some 0w-30 oil because canada can get pretty cold in the winter even tho I don’t drive my car in the winter time I do start it up every other week to get the oil moving and listen to the exhaust.

2015 UK-Spec and the iDrive says 0W40 (0W30 acceptable) and it must be LL01 or LL04. I use Castrol because it was the cheapest i could find at the time but any brand 0W40 LL01/LL04 will suffice.

Since yours is Canada-Spec and a 2016MY, you may have to double check what your iDrive recommends

Just a bit of advice. Don’t start your car to just to move the oil or charge the battery. You are doing more harm than good. Not only are you doing unnecessary cold starts (where the majority of wear comes from). You are also not heating up your engine enough. You will fuel dilute the oil without getting enough heat and time to burn it off. You are also putting moisture in your exhaust system that won’t really go away until you drive your car. Put the car away hot and stick it on a battery tender. That’s it. Start the car in the spring when the roads permit you to drive and really heat up the oil. Also a good time to change the oil. Although some say do it before laying up the car.

TL;DR - If you don’t plan on driving the car just leave it alone.

Mobil 1 0W-40 has LL-01 approval again with API SP. Just found a bunch at Costco and I also saw the 5 quart jugs at Walmart for $26.

Quaker State 5W-40 Euro also has LL-01 and can be had for $22/5 quart jug at Walmart as well. As far as I know, the QS is the cheapest LL-01 oil on the market. It is essentially the same as Pennzoil Euro 5W-40 for half the price as both are Shell GTL products.

I’m so confused by all the multi-page oil threads, and I know you keep up with it.

I track 2-3 times a year. Otherwise, street driving in the NE (same climate as you).
I currently use Castrol Edge 0W-40.

Is it best to (1) keep this; (2) switch to Castrol Edge 0w-30 or (3) switch to Motul 5w-40 (If so which one?

Thanks!

When you do go to the track how hard are your sessions (RPM most of the time), how many sessions per track day, and how long per session. We’re trying to determine how much shearing your oil experiences.

Probably 3.5K and up through most of the session. Each session is 20 minutes. 4-5 sessions per track day.
