You could use this device - or maybe just not leave the keyfob inside the vehicle... Either method would work just fine.
I didn't leave the keys in my car when it was stolen, a gang of four men broke into the house for the keys. But yeah I get what you're saying, these things happen though as the OP has shown unfortunately.

Either way would prevent a loss, also stops keyless signal amplification thefts and key closing thefts.

I hope they total it, but mine looked similar to that and they fixed it. State Farm will only total it if cost to repair exceeds 80% of the value. Good luck. In any event at least it's only 4 months.
Thanks. I really hope its Totaled because it's going to take Months to fix and now doesn't have midpipe or rear exhaust because the fucks at the TowYard stole it

Sorry to hear that and obviously your situation is different than the sheer negligence of leaving key with the vehicle - not that I'm victim-blaming. But it is what it is..

I, myself, have a TMobile OBD2 hotspot & tracker that works with a 4G LTE connection in my vehicle. It supplements the Connectdrive locator.

So I don't think your suggestion was a bad idea but was merely stating the obvious.

Damn that's wild lol. At least it's a lease and you don't have to worry about insurance payout and such. Gonna get into another one or what?
Going to wait for new Bodystyle M4.

Trust me, it's totaled.

Word of advice, don't lie, but try to skirt around the fact that you left your key in the car. Your rates will probably go up since your car was totaled or heavily damaged and that may be influenced by whether they think this might happen again. If they think you're careless with your keys, they might think so and your rates might go up even more. Again, don't lie, but try not to tell them everything if you can help it.

All that said, you have 5 months left on the lease. Unless you were planning on buying the car from BMW, who cares if it's totaled or not? You only have to drive it a few more months if it isn't totaled. And you're going to have to lease an in-between car anyway since the new 4 series or M4 won't be out in time.

Sorry for you loss OP....

Regarding the DCT vs 6MT comments made earlier, makes me feel (slightly) better that my car is a 6MT. In fact, I made my teenage son learn how to drive stick before I got him his car several months ago (a 2009 128i 6MT) partially for security reasons. I consider a 6MT the "Millennial Anti-Theft Device"

Not uncommon unfortunately for parts and items inside cars to disappear at the tow yard, especially on totaled cars. Certain auto policies cover added parts, though usually you have to disclose to the insurer before hand.

Might be worth checking with your insurer if they will cover your cost of parts and/or install for the exhaust. Hopefully you have the order and installation receipts.

Might also be worth raising a stink with the police based on the police picture still depicting your exhaust. Ideally the tow yard has surveillance footage (more than likely) and is willing to turn it over (less than likely). It's a felony based on the value, so there's that.

Poor thieves, no one trained them properly on how to activate traction control.

The guys at the tow yard picking the pockets off the dead corpse are just as bad.

My brother in Colorado left keys in and running in Tacoma truck. Ran in came back out to see it driving away. Thieves rolled it being chased by cops. Insurance covered it.

JFC. I'd say take legal action, but those places are so corrupt and surrounded by lifetime scumbag lawyers that it's rarely worth it. I've fought and failed that battle before.

I wish you luck man... you got fucked. I'm really sorry..

that second scenario actually happened to me - car didn't get stolen, but it got stripped where it was parked with 3 months left on the lease. My dealer flatbedded it to their body shop, told me they would pull ahead the rest of the lease, so we went to their showroom and picked out a new car. Never saw the first car again. I hope your dealer makes your experience as easy.
Yeah. My lease is up in March. My fear is having to pay 900/month for 4 months then turn it back 2 months later
It will likely get totaled as soon as the claims adjuster has it inspected. You should be off the hook for remaining payments. Good luck!

Good to hear that it was totaled.

Where was the car found? Kind of a weird hit based on the pics.
