Water injection issue?

My pump is running for about 90sec after I turn the ignition off. Seems much longer than before but I never timed it. Do you guys think the filter is blocked - or something else is wrong ? Hard to tell water consumption on street driving. I did add last time I tracked. Dealer time? Getting nervous as warranty expiring soon'ish.

hmmm, I'd say dealer time. Can't hurt. I don't recall a pump cycle that lasted anywhere near that long. Maybe the scavenger pump is losing steam? Can't be 90 seconds worth of water in the lines.

Thx for the sanity check, my thoughts exactly.

Mine takes quite a while to completely purge the system as well. I'll time it next time and report back.

Edit: My car is using water as it should.

I took my car out and ran some errands this morning. When I got home, the car was fully warmed up and I had some fun on some freeway in ramps to try and get the water flowing a little (you know, for science). I timed the pump from right when I turned the ignition off to when the pump shut off and it was 89 seconds. I think you're good OP, but a second opinion never hurt either.

Sheesh, I'm away from the car right now. I'd like to test and report as well. Swear it's never been more than like 30 seconds max... But I've never listened for it at the track btwn sessions. Back in the garage from around town runs, some highway ramp blasts, pretty sure it's off before I walk in the house door.

I agree, I would swear it was less too but never timed before so just a guess, I guess.......

Ok so I am having the water injection valve block replaced. They also have to update or reprogram the car. I said I didn't want my car reprogrammed (Carbhan tune) and was told BMW will not cover it without reprogram. Purportedly a $6k part...... Apparently these new programs make it much harder to tune......
Not just a re-flash. Also there is supposedly some bulletin re this. Anyone else hear of this?
I pick her up in Monday so should know more then.

That sounds like a hassle. I just had my car in for service two weeks ago and my SA didnt say anything about an update. Keep us posted what happens.

First I have heard of this. Just had my car in as well and no mention of this from my SA. I had a complete service.

Like to hear what you find out.

#15. $3,570!

Are they saying your extended scavenge pump time was a symptom of this part going bad?

What's a good way to validate this? Turn the car on and off and time the pump noise?

I haven't driven the car in months and warranty is coming up.

Yes that will tell you how long the purge cycle is.
I am chatting to another GTS owner off line and he too had his block replaced with a new updated part. So there IS a new part and hence the required programing. All the details tomorrow.....

Tested mine in two different occasions. After two hours long drive on sport+ mode, and another one after car wash/air out session around the neighborhood for < 10 min. again on sport+ mode, both times the pump ran about the same (89 and 90 seconds).

Crazy. Who knows other than there is an updated part with apparently a different part number. So I'm glad I'm getting it. I can't confirm but I would have sworn the pump never ran that long before...... but I'll know if there is a difference tomorrow. Stay tuned.

What a blunder! This whole situation is a mess the whole car. I'm done with BMW. My car was popping fault codes for the water injection and they didn't do anything until the third time I came in and showed them my reader. Then they said the BMW reader needs to get the code and voila! What do you know? The code popped up! Clowns. I'm never stepping foot in another BMW dealer. They lost a lifelong customer after treating me like a peasant. I have since bought four cars from different German brands.

Ok got the car back. The whole system was replaced, valve, block and filter. The ONLY reason it was replaced was because I had a fault that was verified by demonstrating low pressure in the system (spec = 10bar) not sure how low but low enough to through a code. It had NOTHING to do with the long purge cycle that I brought it in for......FYI it still purges for 90 sec 😳🙄
Bill would be >$10k if out of warranty but the only one my dealer has ever done so hopefully not too common.

What exactly were the operating noises if the purge cycle is the same? Good thing they replaced everything. Is there a code that shows pressure under 10 bar or did they manually verify low pressure?

It doesn't sound any different to me than before. There was a low pressure fault that they then physically verified, somehow.
