Carbon Fiber Lip Spoiler Protection

So I recently installed a CF lip spoiler on my lowered F80 and not even a day passed where I already cracked/chipped the bottom of the lip.

I've heard its inevitable, hearing stories from others that it's only a matter of time until mine will eventually fall off or damage it enough that I have no choice but to take it off.

Is there anything out there product wise that I can use to at least lessen the damage on these lips if scraping it is unavoidable?

If your car is lowered you’re most likely on borrowed time with cf lip or lip of any kind for that matter. Ditch the drop and you should be fine.

I'm not lowered, but I wrapped mine in Xpel and it has done a wonderful job of protecting it from sand pitting and the occasional bump/scrape.

If you choose to do this, make sure the film is nice and warm when applying as it will mold and stretch easier to conform to the curves. I did have to make a seam (blue arrow) where mine curves to meet the front center intake, but it is barely noticeable unless you get down close.

Nice I was thinking of this but wasnt sure if anyone has done it. I was also considering some type of gorilla glass equivalent that we put on our cell phones. Definitely something to consider.

Did you do the wrap yourself?

I have ppf on my lip as well but it won't save it from the ill effects of impact and scraping. It won't stop a lip from cracking. Ppf will only save it from rock chips and pitting from small particles hitting it at speed.

Yes, installed myself. As Clark_Kent stated, it won't save you from everything, but I have bumped mine a few times on parking stops with no damage. The PPF will also help hold it together should you crack it. Most of the lips are hollow....you could strengthen the lip using the West System Microlight filler, but it will also add some weight, so not sure how that may actually affect the lip at highway speeds. I'd think you would be alright as long as the lip is mounted with screws and not just VHB tape. I used both stainless screws and VHB tape on mine.

If you don't slam the thing you can get by. I did recommended drop on MP HAS and my CS lip is ok so far. I'm fairly cautious. Time will tell, and I'm dreading the day I scrape it.

The girlfriend has ordered me to take the damn lip off my car after this weekend. Lol. I told her about this thread and how I was looking for solutions. She said, "Why dont you just get air suspension?"

My mouth dropped and was taken aback and asked if she had the modbug too. Lol. Anyway, that's probably the most extreme option at this point. Not looking to spend that type of money..

This is why I got myself the LightWeight Lip. Made of hard durable polyurethane plastic. You scrape, bump, or kick it it will never break. Plus it looks great on the car.

We're working on a aluminum skid plate for the M Performance lip. I'll keep everyone updated. It's next up after we finish the M2 kit.

ive run cf lips many times. the trick is to be an alert and attentive driver. if you live in a place where getting in and out of steep entryways, driveways, etc. can't be avoided then maybe steer away or do a PPF

I did this also (RKP spoiler). Had full bumper and front of the car past the A pillar to include the CF roof XPel'd before the spoiler was installed, with the spoiler XPel'd separately. This is primarily if not entirely to prevent flying projectile damage. I am not lowered and therefore unlikely to scrape. So far, so good.
