What is this sound? (Rear axle area)

Anyone know what this sound could be? Noticed it as I was leaving my house. Matches car speed, gets pretty loud. The sound immediately stops when I switch to N while moving.

I turned around and parked the car after this, it's much louder in person.

Car is a 2015 F80 M3 DCT.

Update: Sounds coming from the rear differential (catastrophic failure).

Update: Turns out this noise was coming from the rear diff. I decided to replace it with a used one with lower miles (currently in the shop for the repairs).

did you take it to bmw to get it checked?

i have a 2018 m4 comp, and i put on winter tires 2 weeks ago and i just started hearing this sound. it happened when i was in second coasting at 15km. it didn’t make the sound when i was braking or accelerating (i think) idk what it is. i’m not sure if i should be worried or not, im new to all of this. anything helps

In my case it was the rear diff which failed, I replaced it with a used one!

If you only started hearing a sound after changing tires then definitely check the tires for anything abnormal.

how much did it cost to source a used diff and labour? if you don't mind me asking
