all other idrive features remain exactly the same. the only change is that anything carplay related is now full screen. there is no more split screen option in carplay. but split screen options still occurs outside of carplay as normal.

Widescreen CarPlay does not display any pictures. 🙃

All it does is gives you a full screen map or music screen.

Did they just go ahead and update you just by asking or did you have to have a complaint about something in order to cajole them into it?

i told them that my idrive was freezing from to time. the only way to unfreeze it was to turn the car off/on. of course they couldn't duplicate the issue, but they updated my idrive from nbtevo_j --> nbtevo_p.

Sorry I'm still trying to understand the big picture here.

Based on my research, you have to pay BMW to have Apple Carplay, and your phone's apps will never work on the dash screen if you don't? Is Bimmertech providing a hack to get around paying BMW for the service? Or Bimmertech is only providing an enhanced version (widescreen) of Apple Carplay?

CN: God I want Waze to work on my dash screen.

Starting 2019, bmw will have an annual subscription fee to activate/use CarPlay.

I believe bimmer-tech can activate CarPlay (2017-2919) for a one time fee and also enable full screen.

My '17 already had CarPlay enabled so i just paid for the full screen from bimmer-tech. This is the way it should of come from bmw.

initially i believe it was $300 one time fee when carplay first came out up until 2018. last year bmw announce that starting in 2019, new cars will be subscription based. but they may offer first year free. i dont think bmw will offer one time fee for carplay anymore.

I got this done yesterday, I bought from ebay (https://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-Lifetim...-/254112988554). Interestingly, since I'm in Australia, I prefer the column on the side with the virtual home button to be on the right side and he was also able to code that which was great. Highly recommended.

It seems to work fine :-)
Took only about 10 mins.
You will need laptop, enet cable, and internet connection.

<Steps>
Download the app from URL provided
Enter code for the app that will be provided
Open the app connect ENET cable
Push few buttons on the app and wait

Sounds like it will reset when dealer updates your software, but can re-use the app/code to code again.
