G3x/F90 10.25" display retrofit in F8x with new BimmerTech adapter: my experience

Hey guys, looking at doing this upgrade as well for my 2016

Here's the parts list I've purchased so far.. Is there anything else I'm missing? I plan to have Alex at AlpineMSS do the coding and I already have a enet to OBD2 adapter.

1. Purchased the Bimmertech adapter plate for the 10.25 screen

Just completed this retrofit. Loving carplay and the bigger touch screen. Coming from a 2016 I had to upgrade pretty much everything including the Headunit. I also had to bite the bullet and pay for Bimmertech coding to make sure everything was as compatible as possible. Coding was the most expensive part since Bimmer-tech was the only ones who could do it. Overall very happy with esp since it's OEM+ parts. Attached some photos for you guys interested..

I’m considering doing this upgrade as well. Assuming I upgrade to HW4.1, is android auto also supported in addition to CarPlay?

EVO doesn’t support it

I have a BMW G21 with an 8.8 display. I would also like to convert to 10.25. My idrive is also the 6 series with NBT evo. Does anyone have a part number for the display with the simple coding? or does it not work at all on the g21?

Will the SCALER version (or any version of 10.25” cid) work with iDrive 6 lite? I tried the (older?) kyocera version 1440x540 and could not get it to work. I level is original (car from early 2018).

We tried basically all combinations of coding parameters and every time got “no signal” if I remember correctly… I had already retrofitted an 8.8 touchscreen.

I have iDrive 6 lite and had previously retrofit the 8.8" touchscreen display as well. As I discussed in my previous posts, I opted for the 10.25" MGU, which required fairly advanced (and expensive) coding by BimmerTech to make it work.

The SCALER display, however, should work with very easy coding. WhiteFox and kubax86 should be able to give you the correct settings to make the SCALER display work. Good luck!

This is awesome and looks like a super simple DIY. I have to ask because it wasn’t clear, is the 1920x720 MGU resolution only available for native bmw apps, nothing else and more important not CarPlay? Meaning does CarPlay and the idrive OS run at the lower resolution even in the MGU? If so I’ll save the coding money and just get scaler I think. Just want to make sure I’m not leaving any high resolution of the table. I’m a resolution junkie but I won’t use bmw maps

Good question. In my experience, the higher 1920x720 MGU resolution is only evident when viewing the BMW native navigation maps. That said, I love the MGU display. Hope this helps!

From what I recall kubax86 telling me, it isn't really coding that makes the MGU display work with the ID 6 head unit. It was more of a flash that was very involved--way more than mere coding. BimmerTech needed about an hour to complete the work. And BimmerTech wouldn't tell me what they did to make it work--they effectively treat it as a proprietary solution.

kubax86 figured out a way to code the head unit to "work" with the MGU, but the resolution was wrong. As I recall, if you see the large black borders, if you move the selector wheel to the left, right and left again, it will suddenly look better. But you have to re-do that every time you navigate to another menu and go back to the map. Hope this helps.

it seems only BimmerTech can. I have tried several codings but can't get it to turn on. I get NO SIGNAL. all the time. there is a dealer that has the adapter much cheaper and very good..
