OEM 6MT Shift Knob vs. ZHP

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
My new-to-me F80 came with the M Performance shift knob. I'm not totally sold on the feel of it. I previously had an E46 M3 with a ZHP weighted shift knob and I loved the grip of the leather, the size, and the weight. I've never handled the OEM F80 shift knob, but it resembles the ZHP knob in photos and videos. Can someone comment on how the two compare in terms of size and weight? I'm considering switching to one or the other. Thanks in advance!

Same knob, just the F80/F82 one is illuminated and only sold complete with boot.

It’s alright. And which m performance knob do you have?

LCI performance knob shifts feel much better than the standard shift knob.

It’s still illuminated too!

I have both and I prefer the ZHP, comfort, feel and of course the extra weight feels great. It complimented my Auto Solutions Short shifter very well.

Long story short, had the knob sitting around the garage from my old M3 and totally forgot I had it. Tried it on the f80, and left it on.

Thanks for the feedback! Just wanted to clarify since e46IX says they're the same (except illumination/boot), but bvrider1 suggests they're different. Does the ZHP knob for sure have a different feel and more weight?

I cant say for certain but i believe there is no difference with the shift knob from a base vs competition 6 speed model. I believe those two users are actually talking about the ZHP knob from a E46 M3 and installing it into a F80.

I found ebay had them as cheap as $65 but you'll have to cross ref the part number.

I also placed each know on my food scale , kinda hard to do w. the Performance one because it was still glued on to the boot. The weighted ZHP is heavier.

Thanks for the explanation. I was more interested in the differences (if any) between the ZHP knob and the F80 OEM knob (not the M Performance knob) - any thoughts on that?
