Love:
- The roof shape and how it integrates with the trunk. - The trunk lid is fantastic. - Wide fenders. I'm sure they will look more dramatic in person. - Door mirrors are as fantastic as the trunk lid. - CF Diffuser. - CF Exhaust tips. Hate: - The ridiculous hood line that destroys all the fluidity of the rest of the design. - Stupid name change. - The expected price, specially when equipped to look like the concept. $85k+ wouldn't be a surprise. IMO that's too much for an M3 (M4 whatever...). - The likelihood of having the iPad looking thing sticking out from the dashboard. Don't like: - The holes below the red reflectors on the rear bumper. - The flaps that are located on each side of the front bumper, above the side air intakes. IMO the front would look much better without them. Overall, it leaves me with mixed feelings. I want to love it but for some reason I can't. |

BMW did not invest millions into an Aerolab just so it can featured in the Munich Architectural digest. There is no fake vents on the M3 and M4 everything is now function over form.

LOTS OF CRITICS! Wait until you see the specs officially and the real vehicle in front of you.

Overall, I like what I'm seeing
Great job BMW (still not feeling the new name ) I question how the lines just above the head lights will look on a production car. Three separate pieces coming together to form one line is very susceptible to looking misaligned. I wonder if someone will come up with an eyebrow or cap to help create one line across this space. |

HP is nice but you can feel torque and torque rules on the street where most of these cars will spend their time. Boost is very addictive as well. This car will 'feel' twice as fast in everyday driving.

There are many ways to apply the "form follows function" principle. I don't like the one BMW chose in this case. |

-Form & Function: (to qbix and others)
This is a real mixed bag for the car. I was really pleasantly surprised to see the inside the rear fender photos and learn that the rear "air curtains" in the bumper are indeed functional like the front ones. This is quintessential BMW M. Unfortunately it does lead to a very busy/cluttered look. Now that being said I am also confident there are many surfaces/features in both the front and rear bumper cover that are 100% aesthetic and form over function... Let's wait and see if the side vents are truly functional. These were in the E46 M3 but were NOT in the E9X M3. Let's also hold off on a judgement about the power dome. It could be for the engine/bracing or could also be for pedestrian impact reasons. Unfortunately it is most likely form over function/. The cheesy carbon fiber covers on the exhaust tips are 100% form over function. I also kind of suspect the cheesy ///M stripes are for the concept car only. Thus the claims from SCOTT26 about function over form are exaggerated and flavored by BMW Marketing...-The Pchop with the improved hood/bumper line looks infinitely better that line in the hood is really quite hideous. -I suspect 19" wheels will be standard and 20" optional. -I'm definitely looking more closely at the P cars. I guess that is just a natural progression for an M guy... Surely for me it is also about really wondering if I want my 4th M3. Whoops 1st M4...

incase you have'nt noticed
The general has upped their game with the new C7 and the Z28...both cars are aiming at the HPDE crowd..Ford is also onboard with a new serious offering that will be track day worthy. I think everybody is on to BMW's game and are producing drive to the track day cars that usually only Porsche...lotus..and maybe Mazda played in...the track day cars help sell the poser models as M or is that Marketing division has figured out.
So this new car better not go into limp mode on the track as I have been told the new turbo M's do and the lag better be a thing of the past. So this new car MAY weigh less but will it be as exciting to drive as a E9x...there is just something that puts a smile on your face at the track or on the street with that S65 shifting above 5000...ok so it is a gas pig at the track...but I drove a new Cayman S the other day...BORING...handled great but did nothing for my soul. I hope this new M45 or whatever they want to market it as has the goods under the hood! |
