2018 M3CS here, Spun @8666 miles (talk about bad luck), currently fixed on Insane Performance CH. Prior to spinning I was on stock tune driving normally to get dinner. 2 weeks prior I was on Full E85 no issues and when I was on stock tune it went.

Lots of these threads have comments saying DCT cars are more susceptible to this issue and this survey would appear to support that at first with DCT cars with SCH outnumbering manual cars with it 2:1. But then I looked at the post about total production figures. Globally DCT cars outnumber manuals 5.4:1. This would seem to indicate that DCT cars are actually less likely to be victims of this which makes sense to me since there's no chance of sloppy downshifts without rev-matching...

Im getting an M4, used, and read a ton of the forums for views on this issue. is there any way to check if the crankhub is worn or otherwise weakened for whatever reason? I will avoid kickdowns and high power low rpm after buying, but want to know ive got something which isnt tainted in that senze

MaxPSI hub here, installed by MaxPSI/bimmerclinic themselves. 19,000 miles and Bootmod3 Stage 1. No issues to report. They no longer sell the hub because of costs and improper 3rd party installs causing failures is my understanding.

Has anyone in this thread actually taken a statistics class or classes on how studies like this are done properly? None of this data is in any way shape or form even usable. For 1, people with SCH failures or people are worried about SCH failures are going to be more likely to cast a vote. In addition, the sampling data isn't an accurate representation of the overall population of owners as you have to be a member of the forum to even be able to participate (which obviously limits the demographic of people who are being represented right off the bat). I say all of that to say this... DONT read too much into this data...

I love these bogus crank hub threads.... Read carefully 88,000miles full bolt on stage 2 Hex tune , CSF intercooler, titanium mpe exhaust, carbon afe intake....no issues....and yes i downshift hard , track the car....i also do 30,40,60 rolls against mustangs , Camaros , vettes etc ....and this car is absolutely flawless, no crank capture or any crank hub mod....none, stay away from e85 tunes and 700rwp and you too can post a testimony 🙌 like this lol...93 octane tune only

So basically there is no real difference between 6MT and DCT when comparing all stats, but stock vs modified there is a clear difference!
I wonder if the real problem is just crank harmonics/vibration at higher power levels making the crank bolt coming loose? |
