How long do the front hubs last on the track? I am pretty sure mine are starting to go out as there is a decent amount of bearing like noise when I turn above 40mph. Looks like they are fairly easy to replace judging by the picture of the part.

15k miles of mixed use, that's how long they last for me

The M4 GT4 maintenance schedule says 5k miles

I plan to do mine before next track season, 45k-ish miles. I don't have any clear symptoms at this point, but bought them (along with 4 required bolts) from FCPEuro so will be able to swap out again pre-emptively down the road for free as I probably will keep the car. Looks like FCP still has them on "discount" at $275 each (vs 317 from ECS)

The 2 screws that hold the rotor on are notorious for seizing up, be prepared with some thread catalyst. My BMW dealer had to drill one out and killed the threads in the process.

If you drive like Robert Kubica on track, then you could theoretically run through a set in about 450 miles. Otherwise, they can last around 4000 miles of exclusive track use based on the estimations below:

What size torx bit is necessary for the front hub bolts?

The new bolts should be Torx PLUS 60, the bolt changed over the years. The original ones from years ago I believe are Torx (standard) 60.

I recently noticed my LF wheel making a cyclical chrip/squeak. Doesn't appear to be break pad rubbing on the rotor.

Is this symptomatic of a bad hub?

If the frequency of the noise seems rotational (varies with wheelspeed), then very possibly. Could be corroborated with wheel wiggle when corner is in air and trying to induce play when grabbing and pushing tire at 12/6 or 3/9 o'clock positions.

You will hear a howling/growling noise that increases with speed especially when turning.

So replaced both hubs, and the car is nice and smooth again. I did notice that the driver side hub was pretty notchy. The most annoying part of this process is the torquing the hub bolts 90 degrees post 122Nm torque target.

I used a standard T60 socket and it worked out fine for me. The difference in the two versions is the thread pitch. I think the older version is 1.5 and the newer one is 1.25. Its suggested that the bolts should also be replaced and not reused.

I was lazy and I only replaced them after 27k mi and 40+ track days. By the time we took them out, the brake rotors already left some scratch on the calipers due to excessive flex from the hubs.

Any reason why a hub replacement would not be covered if mine show signs of failure?

If they last 5K mi on the GT4 you are not pushing hard enough.

If yours are spraying grease all over the place I bet you can get it covered under warranty.
At least that's my plan with the CS!
