Interested in this as well. My silver badge on the passenger side has started to crack. Drivers side still has plastic cover and no cracking. Do I have to take it to the dealership I purchased the car from or can I get them replaced at a local dealership?

Just picked up an F83 myself and -- it's 2 years old and after reading these posts, looked at my silver "M" seat lights and -- they actually look like crap and are cracked. Anyone know the 'best way' to take to the dealer and have them replaced with the new black ones? (special phrasing to use etc)?

Will the dealer order the parts before actually seeing the car? I'd hate to schedule a service appointment just for them to look at it for 2 mins and go yes new ones need to be ordered. Then have to bring it back a week later once the parts arrive.
Those of you that have had theirs replace, did you just call ahead and get the parts ordered before scheduling the appointment? I just purchased the car so I don't have a specific SA I work with at my local dealer who is 1 hour away. |

That will be dealer dependent - at most they will have the silver ones in stock, but I doubt many will have the black ones in stock. In my case, my dealer specializes in beige 330i's, so to avoid the hassle, I just ordered and installed myself.

Mine is finally going into service with cracked seat emblems.. Hoping the "Surplus" of silver emblems has dried up and they only now replace with the black emblems. Anyone had this done recently?

I had mine replaced under warranty about a month or two ago and they used the silver ones. I did not ask about the black ones as I prefer the look of the silver ones tbh. I'll get the black ones before my warranty expires as I don't think those ones crack

I went in to have mine replaced under warranty at Rallye in Long Island...
Funny part was I asked my very nice SA for black ones, he "said no" via text. But low and behold at pick up they had put on the black ones! They really look great on the SS interior. |

Lucky you! I just got a call from my SA and he said that in order for them to install the updated version it would be out of pocket expense of $750 per seat. Looks like I'm getting the old version. Hopefully it doesn't crack again.

You have to wonder where they come up with some of these numbers...I think they just make them up to make you go away. The retail on the emblems are around $200. So $1300 in labor for something that takes 15 minutes per seat.

They also claimed it was four hours of labor per seat which is where the astronomical charges come from. I wasn't happy that they were going to reinstall a faulty piece so I had to pull some shenanigans and call BMW NA last minute. I guess the phone call or the threat of opening up a case with BMW NA lit a fire under the dealers ass, because I got a phone call shortly after saying that it was taken care of, that the black updated emblems were on order, and would be installed under warranty. Hate to have to pull those cards but I also don't like that the dealer doesn't really treat me like a customer, more like a device for profit. If they took the time to think about how it would benefit them to keep me happy as a customer, Id end up spending more money there in the long run and the minimal effort to make these small things happen would be a drop in the bucket monetarily.

I got mines replaced with the black ones. This was when they first pop up on the 18’s. I only provided the part number to my SA. Done deal.
Better yet my silver ones weren’t even cracking yet, here is the kicker. I even got my silver ones back which I ended up also selling on here. Win Win for me |

Another win for the black replacements under warranty! My SA also told me that BMW is now accepting all requests for black replacements in lieu of silver ones IF the customer asks (and there is actually an issue with the silver ones) Check out my experience here...

I have a CPO 2015 F83. Factory warranty ended but CPO warranty ends in January. Dealer would not cover them under the CPO warranty.
Any ideas for getting these replaced by BMW under warranty? Is it worth a call to BMW NA? I might try my hand at replacing them myself but haven’t been able to find a DIY for an F83 seat... |
