Installing an Essex AP Racing 9668 Kit... So much drool!

Thought I'd give you guys something to drool over.. just finished installing my Essex AP Racing 9668 kit... the best big brakes for hard track days! The caliper is a work of art.. huge .. but so light!

Also put in a set of APEX SM10 wheels..

What material are the caliper pistons made out of?

Also, what brake ducts are those?

Work of art. I have the 9660 version of that kit on my e92.

I tried my luck with 997 GT3 ducts and basically ran into two issues:

1) the front facing plane of the F8x control arm is angled (not close to perpendicular to the ground), so the Porsche ducts, even if tied down with zip ties, would probably eventually get rotated to lie on the control arm's plane, thus impairing the duct's air catching capability

2) the Porsche duct would need to be cut out significantly for the F8x steering rod, reducing its surface and rigidity

Even if you overcome both, it is worth noting that rather than catching cool air from under the car, you will be mostly catching hot air from the radiators.

I gave up on them. Hope that helps.

huh, you are right .. I tried a few orientations and didn't work.. ah well, luckily the porsche ducts were super cheap... so it was worth a shot..

Coming back to the APs, though, do you know/did you measure the piston sizes?

Even though I plan to run Apex SM10 18s ... here's a shot of how much clearance there is with the stock 437M wheel and a 5mm spacer... not much but enough to clear with no rubbing.

No I didnt. I already have prior experience with the same 9668 kit and I know it can withstand heavy track sessions with zero fade so I don't really care about piston sizes etc.

there's some data here - https://www.essexparts.com/storage/w...cd-iss1_10.pdf

and quoting from the specs- here - https://www.essexparts.com/essex-des...-f87m2f80m3f82

piston sizes quoting from above article are -
27.0mm x2
31.8mm x2
38.1mm x2

Have you weighed the difference between OEM and this BBK?

Sweet! Very jealous of those meaty pads! Looks good and should improve performance and hopefully have better wear rates compared to the OEM setup. Let us know how it goes once you get out to the track

Wow, those are big calipers. Two question so:

How long did the install take?
Can the pads be changed without taking the calipers off like the stock brembos?

The 9668 has just a clip that makes pad swaps incredibly fast. My 9660 has bolts that are nearly as fast; you don't need to remove the caliper to remove the pads on either kit.

RazorM4 The install took me about 1 hour per side and then 1 hour to bleed .. then I went to bed my brakes and then re-bled my brakes one more time.. so 3-4 hours in total. However I am really, really slow as I like to take my time and think thrice before I act as from experience I know I've broken things, stripped bolts etc from trying to rush things - I'm no expert mechanic..
