The one time I accidentally left my key in the car (in a really really nice neighborhood. I feel like such an idiot but never in a million years did I think that would happen. The worst part is I locked my car but forgot something for my camping trip so had to go back to my car . Thats when I must have left it.... Worst part was car was stolen for almost 24hrs before anyone knew. Fucking animals.

Word of advice: don't be fooled by the body shop. They will do whatever it takes NOT to total the car cuz they want the job. They'll low ball the insurance company then "surprise!!" we found additional damage and will supplement. At that point the insurance company is married to the repairs. You do NOT want this vehicle back. It'll never be the same. Blessed the lease is almost matured and will be someone else's problem.

First hand experience from working at a SoCal dealer who partners with an independent body shop.

Good luck.

Yeah. I was worried about that too, but I spoke to the Insurance Adjuster and he said they'll make the totaled/not totaled call while its at the tow yard (tomorrow)

Here is some Bullshit. The police sent me a pic of my car in the toward. Exhaust was attached. Went there to grab personal items, fucking AA Exhaust and Midpipenwere gone.

I dont care if the car is totaled but if it's not, I want my exhaust back

Wow. So sorry to see this. I remember tracking the arrival of our cars together. Gutted that it ended like this.

Curious to know how one steals and drives this vehicle. Can't these newer cars be tracked?

Good luck and hopefully your new body style M doesn't end up like this.

I left the keys by accident. Ran back to grab something out of trunk and left it. I checked the BMW Connected APP and it said "GPS TRACKING disabled in iDrive at 4:30am"

IMO this is the best result. I'd rather it be totaled. Second best result is that the vehicle is located after insurance paid out. Then it's the insurers problem. From my limited experience of course.

Sorry about your loss OP.
I would rather not see the car at all than seeing it stripped or crashed.

Ya it's slightly totaled. Clearly the frame is way beyond bent. Thankfully there is insurance.

Were you those parts reported in advance installed on the car?

What insurance Company?

Not that I would have mattered in this case, but yes, you can have BMW track the car even if GPS tracking is turned off. Need to file a police report, then call BMW with the VIN, police report #, and your BMW connected password. They can help you/the police find it instantly at that point, but filing a police report obviously takes time so there is no instantaneous answer via the BMW connected app if they disable tracking via iDrive after taking the car.

Totally totalled!

There's little I despise more than thieves.

We work, earn and buy. Then we have lock it all up to stop those, who can't be bothered working, from nicking it!!!

Coworker lives in Northern NJ, had a brand new A4 in a copper color. Beautiful. She parked it in her driveway one night, in the morning it was gone. They found it in Newark.

The tri-state is weird because you could live in a million dollar neighborhood and be just 10 minutes from a bad part of town.

I did do that and they were able to help but it was after the car was apparently crashed, lol
