Anyone heard anything on how the COTA resurfacing is going?

Just picked up my car from Soulspeed and was speaking to the team there and they said that as of 2 weeks ago when they were there with Edge Addicts, no work had started. Little concerning in that Chin has an event 4 weeks from this coming weekend.

And from what I understand, the amount of smoothing they need to do to get rid of the bumps on T1, Straight before T12 and the T18/19 complex - is a LOT of work. Like tearing out the concrete and redoing the entire surface. Seems grinding down - which they did before and destroyed the paint on many a car - will not work at this point.

Can say that latter set of bumps almost spun me a couple of times, enough to where I started taking the F1 line (way outside which is not optimal for a non-F1/high downforce car) to avoid them.

Anyone have any insight here on what's happening at COTA re: resurfacing?

I don't, however, if history tells us something is that large projects are always delayed....

Posted this over on Rennlist and got a reply saying that the track was now closed and they were starting to tear up the surface...so guess we'll see if they finish in time!

Are you a member of the Texas HPDE/Track/etc Facebook group? Somebody posted the same question about it over there and someone in there linked to a post on GP Americas page with photos (see HERE). Quite a bit has been torn up to be resurfaced and they are redoing some of the parking too. CHIN's event is the first one there this year I think so I guess we'll see. It doesn't look like the work they are doing is as extensive as was originally talked about. Just seems like they're grinding and re-doing the top layer, not whole sections with drainage etc like we all thought

Just saw this post, sorry for the delayed reply and thanks for the link/insight. Also just got this note from a member at Rennlist:

Partial repaving should be complete by the end of next week, weather permitting

I love the partial, and then I think about I-10 with uneven lanes during repaving.

Some friends of mine shared this image in our group chat today. Looks pretty much done.

Interesting, that is some black tarmac!

There in two weeks, will report back on condition

After being out @ COTA for the day, I can say the surfacing has made the track much, much smoother but it's a bit slick - I'm sure that will get better over time.

All of our "favorite" bumps in 1, 10, 18 and all down the back stretch are now a thing of the past.

I won’t know when to really brake at max into turn 1 without the hump.

Was out yesterday as well, there's still a nice dip into 1 for your braking , but the rest is smooth. They resurfaced more that I was expecting. Carousel didn't have the grip I was used to... But other than that it was very nice

It was 1000x better than with Chin back in August.

Slick to start Saturday morning, yes. But by Sunday afternoon couldn't tell any difference in grip levels between non-resurfaced and resurfaced.

The big question is how long will this last. Was a little over a year after the grinding that the bumps came back...hope it lasts longer this time!
