The drivers seat m's don't light up. I believe they glow in the dark or something of that nature.

I highly doubt the techs will even notice any mods on the car when they install this CAN. The only thing they would care about is a tune (which most people do not have yet on their cars).

I brought my 335 leased bmw in multiple times with all my mods in place, for multiple service and warranty reasons, and they didnt say a thing. Hell when I turned my car in off lease the tune was still on it, and they certified the car. I found the new owner of it and checked, and yep the tune was still in place....lol....

The resistor is important to network communications and could create faults.
Part of completing the SIB the technician will check and clear any faults. If there are new software updates for any of the modules then those might be completed at the same time.

Maybe removing the faults or updated software that is changing the feel and sound of the M4...
OR maybe it's just that new car feel of having the service wash before delivery.

Open the PDF file of the SIB in the first post. You will see the illustration of the label and location with instructions for the technician. It is located on page 3 near the bottom.

The CAN bus carries data between systems - it;s the network. The issue lies in that erroneous signals are created causing various modules to react not as they should.

ie. The exhaust system valves were not opening soon enough or at the correct angle making the car sound more muted than it should have been and reducing performance.

These "dirty" signals are seen across the DME, TCU and other various modules causing them to react to situations that did not actually exist, or in some cases reduce the performance to err on the side of caution until the fault codes are cleared.

Thanks, looks like I will have to get this installed, shouldn't take more than an hour right?

The M logos on the seats do illuminate, not glow in the dark. They should illuminate along with the other interior courtesy lights.

Ahhhh I see. Thank you for the clarification.

Probably not as easy as it sounds but just make the exhaust valves open 24/7!!!!

A pillar - windshield, B pillar - is the door(latch side) C pillar - is the rear roof line in "generic" pillar talk.

Yes, we can do this if needed. If one is experiencing erratic behavior on CAN, this would likely be BMW's solution.

I talked to my SA and he said that this would only be applied if there are fault codes stored or warning lights being shown (neither of which occurs in mine).

Not sure if he's right, but I guess since my M4 doesn't really seem to be lacking in power or sound, I'll take his word that even though my M4 was produced in July that it doesn't apply to me.

I wouldn't take a production date cutoff to gospel, BMW has been known to tip on one side to the other with parts or procedures during production. I would always start off by scanning for codes.

If once is experiencing erratic behavior with the electronics as some have been mentioning, it's a good place to start.

Both M logos actually do light up with a backlight when the other interior lights are activated.

I have not had any error or warning lights go off in mine, but since I took delivery of my m4 June 16th, I am going to have this CAN installed anyways since it obviously needs to be in there. I hope it improves the shift points and exhaust sound as well..

The CAN was ordered and Im going into the dealer today to have it installed. I will let everyone know my thoughts later today once the service is complete.

I checked my B pillar and does not have the 703 code decal, I did forward all this info to my dealer in order to have them updated mostly because there are just 3 M4's in Costa Rica, hopefully will be performed at the 2000kms break in service, no issues so far
