Oil Change Question

Hey Guys,

Last month I picked up my M3, and the oil was changed last june, and the car had 32,000 miles. Now, I got the indicator to change the oil because the month interval hit, but, the car only has 1,400 more miles on it. Can I wait the 7,500 miles to change my oil, or, should I get it changed this month?

I personally would wait to 2 years or 5k miles, I believe the 12 month interval is too conservative.

My main consideration on my cars is that they are driven hard enough to boil the moisture out of the engine oil regularly. So oil temps over 212F.

You can wait. You can also reset the indicator so it stops bugging you about it.

2 years???

IMO, I would change it at least once a year or 10,000 miles if you're only daily driving the car. I don't see the need for 5000 OCIs if you're daily driving it. Thats why you need specific long life motor oil for the S55.

Agreed. Once a year minimum.

I store mine for the winter (Oct to April) and I change the oil just before i put it away. I drive under 5000 miles when it's out of storage.

if cost is your concern, get the oil cheap when it goes on sale and just pay an independent shop to change it. They usually bill 30 minutes of labor.

yeah, my old 335 I would do every 4k miles, just wanted to make sure since the car was only driven 1400 miles or so.

thank you all for your input

Do it every 5k miles, use FCPeuro's warranty if you like.

I change mine every 3k-5k miles or 3 months. Too conservative? Maybe, but an oil change is the cheapest, easiest, and one of the most important things to keep your engine in good shape.
