There were things about the car (GT4) that I had liked beforehand, purely from an engineering perspective and what the car represents. It is also the typical progression from a BMW to something like a Porsche.

If I was to settle for a 911, I think I would be okay with a GTS over the GT3. Part of it has to do with cost actually but Cayman/Boxster wise, it would be the GT4. If I would be really stupid, I pick up a 718 Cayman S next to my GT4.

I 100% get it, 2 years ago I would've went for the GT4 as well.

When you went to the Porsche dealership, did you get your hands on the 982 GT4? Because for the most part, the GTS 4.0 and GT4/Spyder are fairly similar. Most just care for the engine, some prefer the smaller gearing in the 4.0. More comforts is always a good thing.

Did wish I can option in B&W for the GT4 unlike the Spyder (which can…)

I think a carrara white GT4 is about the coolest looking Porsche there is ... the 911 turbo gives a run though ... but.

a lot people would say the GT3, though I think all the 911s now just look too big and fat - cool, but when you look at them next to the GT4 it just looks so light & agile comparatively.

If the keys were all laying on the table, I'd pick the GT4

Circling back to this, I just did a build and, man, I gotta say the 911 Turbo really loses this looks battle ... I never really considered it back-to-back. Like, it's bad.

This is how I know I'm losing my car mojo - I have no doubt the turbo would be all the insanity it's rumored to be (never driven a new one), but it just looks WAY worse

Actually, one of the main reasons that I was able to be sure of my path for this was the size of the 992 in general.

Back in 2019 when the 992 was first revealed, I was at the release party that Porsche DTLA was doing. They were selected to do a big one for the car and, I remember seeing it in person and it surprised me how big it has gotten compared to even the 991. I wasn't overly keen on the styling either and much preferred the 718 over it. Then two months after the GT4 and Spyder was shown at the LA Auto Show. My friend that was with me told me that her dream car was the 718 GT4 or the Spyder and a current M2 First Edition owner.

I started looking into it, researching it as I was curious. The more I learned about the car, especially the car getting the PDK-S compared to the former 981 GT4 (previous gen), pretty much got me sold. I remember asking my CA at Porsche if he was 100% certain it was getting the PDK, he said he was absolutely certain and sure enough, a year after it was official too. Then after I signed the Macan GTS, I pivoted towards it. My parents didn't object and then... here I am.

Would I take a 911? Yeah. I think I'd probably get the 4S actually like Sedan would, or the GTS depending on the price but I wouldn't do the GT3. The price for those are just crazy high right now.

Oddly I actually like the look of the 992 over any 718 version but much prefer the drive of the 718. I also like the somewhat basic interior of the 718s over the too many dials I can’t see them all any way 992 interior.

I’d still love a PDK 911 GTS next to my Cayman.

There are a few things with the newer design that bothers me. Aside from the GT3 (RS), the shifter is the biggest "sticking" point for me. I disliked it and that was a huge no for me. The 911's actual size in person is also something I am not overly fond of either.

All the black plastic and interior stuff is also something I am not fond of, which is why I honestly don't prefer it.

Exactly - While looking at Cayennes I literally didn't see a single 911 I had any amount of love over.

My kid's dream car is a 911 turbo cab, but that's off the table for now:

(a.) due to the shifter -- no lie, that thing is a straight-up deal killer for me
(b.) due to other overall looks - just not in love ... or maybe even like
(c.) no euro delivery

Well, I know my first person to die of covid.

Sadly it's someone my age I worked with for over a decade. She was a great consultant, wife & mom to 2 teen kids, and routinely raised millions for charity every year, usually as one of the leaders. The kind of person who routinely had her picture in the local major metro newspaper.

She was likely unvaccinated.
