Has anyone tried these? I had the leopard and short shifter on my 370z.

Folks , i just met my installer and he is not confident on reusing the stock shift boot without damaging it, he says the way stock shifter and boot are tied together it is very easy to damage the shift boot seperating from the shifter , have anyone of you successfully done that ?

So what are the options , Can I buy a stock shift boot from BMW for 335/340 which I believe is the same size? Can I buy one without the shift knob ?

I'm pretty sure the 335/340 knob/boots are gonna be the same issue as the M3/M4. The knob and boot are clamped/glued together. As far as I know, I don't believe the F3X/F8X boots are sold separately. I think the easiest way would be to take your boot/knob to an upholster and have them make you a new boot with whatever fabric or leather you choose; it'll definitely be cheaper. Or if you're feeling crafty, buy the leather and sew it yourself. The pattern is really really simple. This is the route I am going to take (when I get off my lazy butt to do it).

https://www.turnermotorsport.com/c-1...dles-and-boots I called Turner Motorsport and they suggested removing the stock shift boot by turning it inside out and cutting close to the shift knob - then using a zip tie to fasten to the new shift knob. Apparently this was done with previous M-cars who went for aftermarket shift knobs. |

When cars sit in the summer sun,
I found metal shift knobs heat up to the point of being uncomfortable to handle. Let us know what you think on a hot day.
I noticed the maker of that knob makes a "thermal boot" that presumably solves that problem, but it sure looks awkward. That's why I went w/ a weighted Delrin (thermoplastic) knob. See earlier post. |
