Glass part on shifter cracked!
Anyone have this happen before? The car was sitting in the sun while I was at work (90 degrees outside). I get in the car and noticed the shifter felt rough on my hand. It has three cracks on it (like when you drop a phone, deep cracks). All I could think was the temp caused stress cracks, but its been in hotter temps than this...
Curious to see if anyone else has had this happen and if its something warranty should cover (unless they think I took a hammer to it!). |

I'd post a picture. If the crack looks like it has a point of contact, they're gonna say you accidentally cracked it.

Mine has a scratch/crack too and was wondering if anyone else replaced just that glass piece.

Its not glass, its plastic, but wow, thats nuts. I will say my shifter almost burned my hand when I got in the car and touched it last week when its was 90+ here in NY.

A tech or runner at my dealership scratched mine up with a ring or something after a visit. Dealer replaced it but evidently had to replace the whole assembly as just the shifter is not removable (like my old MTs where the knob just pulled off). Just an FYI as apparently not easy to replace.

My friend Ehronius had the same issue. First dealer he went to wont cover under warranty because the say it was cause by an impact.... which it wasnt. However, he found another dealer that would. It turns out, they have to replace entire assembly and would require to be recoded. So if you have any coding, it would get flashed. Ultimately, He decided not to do it because he has HEX tune and other coding he did not want to lose.

It’s dct but they replaced the whole shift surround area by the suspension buttons. It was under warranty so I didn’t pay but glanced at the receipt prior to leaving and was shocked at the price. Call a few dealers to see if you find a good sa that’ll help.

ouch!
How deep is the crack? Can you try buffing with Plastx abrasive headlight / cataract cleaner or something? You would be better of paint mask taping anything you dont want to buff. Hope this works... Cheers. --njexpress |

Something else must have been wrong if they replaced the entire assembly. He claimed it was only the small plastic piece in the middle of the shifter that was scratched.

LOL at glass. I think you mean clear epoxy resin.

Stupid as it sounds - to those of you getting in your cars and finding the shifter to be way too hot to the touch - throw a black beer koozie or a hat over it when you park. Makes a big difference.
