What did the auction house disclose? Those are generally very high risk, as you cannot see damage in pictures, but a whole different story in person.

Do you know what kind of collision and did they disclose what type of mechanical and suspension damage?

Worst case would be a new engine, but this issue seems blown out of proportion. With it being an insurance auction and you see no damage, it very well could be, but you won't know until you check it out. That could explain the mechanical part, but with secondary damage being suspension, most likely not.

Another possible scenario could be they ran over something, cracked the oil cooler starving the engine of oil, messing up suspension while at it. Like in this thread https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1550991

Carfax states as below:
Have you tried contacting the DMV? Seems like they would know.

It's reported as a total loss too but that depends on the insurer and what they do.
Is it too expensive to fix?
Cheaper to get a new one?

How much did you pay for the car?

I can't tell from pictures if the hood it just open or damaged.

Take it to a body shop have it checked take it to dealer have it checked

We're all speculating at this point

Yes the left rear wheel looks off. The front surface of the tire/wheel doesn't look in line with the plane of the wheel arch. I agree the hood looks off too but likely because it wasn't fully closed.

PM me the last 7 of the Vin. Might just be my buddy's old car.

Pic of rear bumper where I can see the diffuser area will help as well.

Too expensive and a total loss in the same sentence is a yikes from me.

Maybe the mechanical is the differential and the suspension speaks for itself because it looks like it slid into a curb on the rear left side.

Hard to tell.

If it really damaged the rear suspension, and tore the diff carrier loose in any spots and or bent that area at all and damaged the drive shaft they would have total loss'd it. My accident caved the rear fender in and pushed the diff over 3/8 inch...the area it mounts too is too complex and most places dont want to try and fix
