Would I be crazy to trade in my 2016?
Hello -
So I picked up my 2016 M3 a few weeks ago (Select Finance) and I am very happy with it. Problem is, when I ordered the car I thought the comp pack was still a year or two away, which as it turns out probably isn't true. Taking that into account, would it be at all reasonable to order a 2016/17 when the comp pack becomes available and then trade in my 2016? Or should I just sit tight and be happy with my 2016? I kind of know what the answer is going to be, but I probably just need you guys to hammer it in to my brain |

Just be happy with it, unless money is no big deal for you. If you trade in, be prepared to take a huge loss, like 15k+, and more if the car is highly equipped.
The benefit you get is pretty minor compared with the cost. I am a cost/benefit ratio person. |

The competition package is probably going to be 20 more horsepower, 5mm lowering, and new wheels. Don't do it, man.

I would take a percentage of that potential depreciation hit and instead invest it into your current car. If you don't like doing the work yourself and are worried about warranties, get some Dinan products and work with a dealership. I think it would still be less hassle and come out cheaper than taking that hit just to say you got the "comp pack" on your car.

if you are the type of person who really just must have the latest piece of kit then by all means. You will make someone in the Baltimore area very happy to pick up a gently used M3 at a discount.

Just take a deep breath and enjoy the car man. If previous competition packages are any indication, then this one will not include any radical changes, and this is coming from a former e92 CP owner.

Keep your car. I've done this before with the e92 and it was definitely not worth the money. Unless the comp pack delivers a huge change in power and components that you will definitely feel, you will just hop into exactly the same car and the amount of equity you lose will not be justified. The longer you have the new car, the harder that will sink in. This is coming from experience.
But then again if money ain't a thang..... still don't do it lol. |

Agree with the others, get dinan parts from your dealer... Forget the comp pack, you'll be better off. My e92 had it, the only thing I cared about was the wheels... An easy fix!

Answer: Yes it would be crazy.
I'm on the side that think the ZCP will be significant enough to wait for at this stage if you haven't taken possession but for us that already have a non ZCP it's completely nuts to swap car already. If you don't enjoy your 2015/2016 you will not enjoy the ZCP and if you do enjoy it, why lose a bag of cash on a premature swap? |

For what it will cost, you can get a nice set of BBS/HRE wheels, some lowering springs, and an exhaust and your car will be just as fast and look better than a ZHP!

I think about the same thing from time to time, but there will always be something newer / better in the pipeline. You just have to pick your spot and jump in. Also, rumors are abound that some type of retrofit option will be available, so you may get the best of both worlds.

just wait and see what the comp pkg is, nobody knows that yet. Also there is no info on when it will come out although its rumored to be summer next year. you just got the car dont worry about what is coming out sometime down the line, there will always be something better on the horizon. live in the moment and enjoy now and worry about the other stuff when it comes out

Just enjoy your car. I don't understand why so many are pressed about the Competition Pack. It's never anything revolutionary. You'll wait around to pay thousands more for what may be a set of lame wheels, 15hp increase, and stiffer springs/dampers.

For the E9x M3 ZCP, you got better wheels. Whereas this go-round, most see the stock 19" F8x wheels as very good, and the 666M as a let-down, visually. |
