Take your car's picture with Neuschwanstein Castle in the background.

you can do Zurich and/or Austria in that time as well ... you could head east, then south into Austria, west through Innsbruck, and back north to Munich. Or to Zurich and back. Depends on if you want to overnight, etc.

Neuschwanstein castle didn't do that much for me on the Time Consumed v Wow curve, but YMMV. The "German Alpine Road" was suggested to me by a Municher and would probably be perfect if you want to keep Munich as home base. http://easytravelers.blogspot.com/20...pine-road.html But it is more an alpine valley road rather than an alpine peak road. on a positive, it is a really nice road (wide, well kept). For an alpine peak road, depending on time of year (snow), you can probably chart a really nice course from Munich to Cortina D'Ampezzo and do the Italian Great Dolomites road and back in a long day. http://www.smh.com.au/travel/activit...614-20c3z.html There are a lot of great drives southwest, but I didn't experience those. If you go to a city (prague, Salzburg, or venice like I did) just bear in mind that you will eat up a large chunk of your time in traffic and parking.
For business reasons I had to spend a lot of my time in Munich center city. It's a really neat town in its own right and worth a day or two. If I had only two days, I don't think I'd try to see another city. In fact, if it had just been me, I would done more of the driving routes (lake como or whatever) and saved Venice and other cities (I really wanted Budapest) for a fly in vacation. If you go to Rothenburg (our favorite on the Romantic Road), I can confirm that the M3 will fit through an alley marked "2 M", barely... As for the autobahn, we more or less circumscribed munich and speed unrestricted stretches are not plentiful. You might want to see if you can find a current map showing speed zones and construction zones. |

I would avoid swiss autobahns, the fines have been increased heavily and with that the law has also changed. they can retain the car if you're way over speed limit (that would be starting from 110 mph on the autobahn!)

My advise is go drive the Passes in the Swiss Alps. The castle is nice, but crowed and lines are long. The tour is 30 mins at best and not really alot to see, i concur with the post above. MY recommendation is drive Grimselpass, Furkapass, Guttannen Passes via 19... I would say THIS IS A MUST, some of the most epic roads/land i have ever driven in a car, you will find yourself windows down, apexes and the relationship between man, machine and M...just epic, i will do this route again, again and again.. next time solo without a passenger.. Austrian Alps are good as well, but man... the Swiss Alps..have to do it
Also no posted speed limits and not overly patrolled.. However on some of these roads you will not be flying but could but not recommended... you could drive it down.. overnight at the end in a B&B, then drive it back.. its that good and worth it. If you are willing to get up early then Neuschwanstein is good. Hike to the foot bridge, take some of the back trails down. Don't bother with inside tour, too much time unless you really like that stuff.
After that there are great roads and other towns nearby. I love zipping from Füssen through Austria to Italy via the Timmelsjoch. I recommend looking at my ED summaries (see links in sig), lots of stuff nearby Munich, which in and of itself is fantastic! The Großglochner is 4 hours away, as are many other Alpine passes.

I did the loop from Munich to Fussen (Neauschwanstein Castle), into part of Austria (langenfeld), then through Innsbruck, and back up to Munich.
From Munich to castle is more open roads. Not twisty spirited drives, but more open scenery. From Castle to langenfeld and parts of the alps were fun. These were more twisty roads with varying speeds. Great views of the alps as well. The autobahn from Innsbruck to Munich was more like freeway driving, although if you wanted to take more scenic roads, I believe you could choose to do so. See my ED. This loop is about the length you are looking at.
