Terrible ownership experience with my brand new M4

  • It took nearly 4 months for delivery when they gave me a "worst case scenario" of 2 months.
  • Came with messed up headlights from factory. While replacing them they fucked it up. (see here).
  • Came with malfunctioning DCT from factory [1].
  • Innumerable rattle noises. Most noticeable one is in the quadrant. My car has full leather, they destroyed the leather around it trying to fix it (
    View post on imgur.com
    ).
  • First service was the break-in, they scratched up the hood and left oil marks in several places like the rear view mirrors and driver side door. At least they respected my request to not wash the car.
  • Last service was this week to replace the headlights and fix the rattle noises. I asked 4x to not wash they car. They washed the car and the near perfect paint job with ceramic protection which was very expensive is completely fucked. There is not an inch of the car without swirl marks. It also has deep scratches on the hood and trunk.
  • They sprayed the car with some oily shit while the door was open (
    View post on imgur.com
) Took me 30 minutes to clean it up but you can still see marks if you look closely.
  • They did 7.9 mpg for the last 10 miles while testing the car. I haven't even come close to that myself. They must have pushed the thing like never before.
  • 2019MY has a new gasoline particle filter. The car I test-drove was a 2018MY and they never during the buying process mentioned it to me. It significantly muffles the exhaust sound (see here).

[1] When cruising in Efficient D1 it hesitates to downshift, most noticeable in 3rd gear. It basically lets it go too low RPMs so the car starts bucking and jumping like crazy, uncomfortable for me and passengers. All my passengers ask me WTF is wrong with my car. They updated the DCT software and it stayed the same. They're now waiting for BMW's green light to replace it.

I am never again buying a new BMW. I might buy 2nd hand but not an M car for obvious reasons. So probably my last M car.

I thought my dealer was bad as they did some cosmetic damage every time I brought it in for service. Next time you get it repaired correctly give them shed. Maybe don’t take it back to them

These are two different dealerships. I went to many of them with previous cars and these used to be the best. They probably got trainees working on my €110k EUR car. I am so unbelievably disappointed.

Actually experienced the same DCT symptom on my 16 non-lci. However, it's only when car is cold and when slowing down without braking let the engine brake itself and found it has too much distance with the front car then tap the gas, it will make jerky feeling, especially from 3rd to 2nd.
Another symptom was when using sequential manual mode in sport mode, reverse to parking spot, shift from D to R without fully stopped, tap the gas like I used to do in E92 trying to make some lovely sound, f80's engine will stall, it happened twice.
Two of the symptoms can be avoided by changing driving habit, went to BMW dealer found no fault code. Maybe it's not some serious malfunction of DCT, just not perfect programmed from factory.

Mine only starts doing it after the car is warm. This is absolutely not normal and needs fixing. Techs said they never seen this problem before. It's like the car is starting to stall because it can't downshift.

Wow, this really does sound like a series of unfortunate events upon your purchase and M... good luck sorting it all out.

Usually I click on these threads and kind of think yah that's bad, but not to the level of what the person is saying.

This is truly a horrible experience, wow.

You should list the dealer name here. I stayed away from BMW for 9 years after my nightmare reliability and service experience with my 335xi and I made it a point to slag Calgary BMW every opportunity I got and a few of my friends went with Audi rather than BMW based on my experience. While both dealerships here are owned by the same company, I still refuse to purchase from Calgary BMW.

That really sucks.
About high consumption, it doesn't have to mean they drove it extremely hard, it will drop a lot (or raise in l/100km) if the car is idling for extended periods of time.

Makes sense. One less thing to worry about.

The DCT thing is well documented here on this forum. Almost all F80/F82s have some form of clutch judder in the DCT. I believe the comp packages experience this less than the non comps, but it still happens (1st gear jerky and 3rd to 2nd feels like its stalling sometimes). I found it happens when the throttle is in sport plus and always just use sport for the throttle.
You can get a flash tune that fixes this (I think it's called a GTS flash tune) but I haven't really got round to getting it done (I will at some point).

I'm sorry but it's not the same thing. It's hard to explain. The tech came with me in the car and he was counting on being what you described. It ended up surprising him because of how weird it is. It's a different issue. We're now just waiting for BMW's answer.

It only happens in Efficient D1 when the car is well warmed up. If it turn off the car and turn it right back on it stops doing it until few more miles.

Didnt you take up the issues with your dealership and make big noise about it or complain to BMW, your dealership sucks and screwed up , why has this got to do with not buying a BMW?

Damn dude. Time to find a new dealer to get service. The GM needs to know about all of this, and a call to BMW USA.

Sorry about the hassles, but have to ask, why buy an M car and drive it in Efficient D1? Program the m1 button and avoid that setting.

Anyone knows a good datalogger than I can hide inside the car to see GPS tracking and speed? Last time I left the car at the dealership they did 250 miles and this time it's already up to 80 miles (I can see it in my ConnectedDrive app). It this sort of mileage normal? I don't understand why they would need to drive it so much just to check some rattle noises that can be heard in 2 miles.

I have the same issue with DCT in auto mode + efficient mode + drivelogic 1. Did you by any chance change your wheels? I noticed it got a LOT better after I switched to my 18" winters. I run 20" with wide rubber in the summer.. I think the size is throwing off the calibration in auto mode?
