Should I buy this 2007 Aston Martin Vantage V8 Roadster?

I also think $39k with 8k miles sounds very low and I would question what’s wrong with the car. Market price seems like it should be 45-50k

380bhp jaguar derived engine, it comes alive after 4000rpm and the suspension is comfy so it's really a cruiser.
If a want-want purchase I would go for it..under 10k miles so should be no issues.

Ehh this one isn't doing it for me. Not sure if it is the lackluster photos with poor lighting or the color which feels boring. Doesn't seem to have the wow factor. I second what everyone else has mentioned about maintenance. Just because its a 40k car? parts are gonna become harder and harder to find and the cost to repair is going to be high being a 6 figure vehicle new. I would be hesitant if it was me.

Boy, is that tempting! At 7,900 miles, hopefully nothing will break. They were built decently and even the car magazines never seem to find a problem with the quality (to the best of my failing memory).

If this is something you want, then go for it. I would advise that you reach out to an independent service provider and the dealership to see what the annual maintenance cost is. Ownership of a car that is on a "want basis" can override any potential rationality, but be sure to do sufficient research on your end and look at worst case real world scenarios such as clutch replacement to see if that is something you can stomach.

Otherwise, go out and live!

if its a dream car for you then get it inspected, do your research on things that could go wrong with it, etc. If you are only driving it a few thousand miles a year i can't imagine the cost of ownership being too bad. maybe 800-1000 a year on service. From what i do remember reading you want to avoid the early models and the 4.3 liter motor. they upgraded to a 4.7 a year or two later.

If this is your daily i'd probably steer your to a e92 m3 for the v8 experience. but if its just a weekend toy the aston is a bit more 'special' in terms of looks, luxury, craftsmanship.

Price is spot on, its not low. In fact car gurus has some a bit less with only 13K on them.

Easy pass because of the single-clutch auto. It's not a great gearbox, and spoils the experience. Mearly ok in paddle shift mode, and poor in auto,

I've been seeing these cars under $50k all day, even with a 6MT, which made me consider because you don't see them around very often. It'd certainly be more interesting than the 911's you see around.

All it took was to read the forums. The repairs are hilariously expensive. I also watched a video Matt Farrah mentioned he spent thousands replacing his handbrake cable on his Vanquish.

I vote no. Good looking and sounding car, and was on my list when I cross shopped it against my R8, but the Vantage didn't do it for me, so ended up with R8. Seems like resale values have also agreed with my decision.

I personally think a well kept V8 M3 is a better buy at that price or lower. It's no Aston Martin badge, but as an actual car to drive and enjoy, I think it does the job better.

Wasn't there some Jalopnik articles years back when someone bought an Aston on Carmax? It broke down constantly and was glad he had the Carmax warranty to cover a lot of the issues he had. But if this Aston has nothing like that, I hope you're ready to drop down some serious cash for those repairs...

With something like an AM, invoices below five figures should be pretty much run-of-the-mill upkeep expenses. A GT3 owner once told me his Ferrari was laid up because he didn't want to pay just then for the $20K brake job it needed. An R8 owner told me his brake job was $7K – I'm not sure, but I think that was just the fronts.

In the 70s I paid $1,925 in 10/2020 dollars for some really minor work on a Jaguar. That car had a number of engineered-in flaws that could not be fixed. For example, a V12 exhaust system's heat flowing over the transmission tunnel and into the cockpit. I lived in North Texas at the time, and that was a terrific feature in the winter but just a really bad bug in the summer.

Either the dealers didn't know about the car's failings or they were happy to just take my money and claim the job had been done. I spent too much time arguing over invoices with those dealers' service managers and chose to sell the car after a year of owning and (mostly) enjoying it.
