Consensus on I Step / I-level update?

Have a 2016 f82 and am just wondering if it would be worthwhile updating the software? Found a few threads but wasnt really able to determine what was best. Also have a stage 1 tune and am wondering if that might complicate things if I wanted to reapply the tune after the update?

Pretty sure if you get the newest update, you won't be able to re tune with bm3, without a bench unlock. I'm not 100% sure if a bench unlock is possible either, but I do really think the new update zaps tuning ability...

I read a lot of those threads too, wondering if I should get the system updated. In the end I decided I'd rather keep my bucking bronco than drive a more tamed car.

Haha that's a perfect way of describing the difference between updated and non updated from what I heard.

You could always go for an istep from mid 2020. I did it last summer and didnt have any issues reapplying bm3 stage 1. I noticed small changes like steering wheel feel, stock engine tune was lacking a lot of low end torque compared to 2017 stock tune i had. I did it cuz bmw did a lot of steering, traction control, and diff refinement in the software compared to earlier.

You should mention what tuning platform you are using that was able to crack the newest BMW software...

Ive also read that it could just be the later MY thats have different hardware compared to previous that requires a bench unlock...

Guys,

(If not tuned and don't want to later)
Take updates at the dealership only as needed to fix problems under warranty. If not under warranty email Alex or Kubax asking their input.

(If tuned)
Don't do updates, period. Work with your tuner for Flash problems. Work with Kubax or Alex for any coding needs (including Euro MDM, steering, dampers, DCT & Differential, Console & Display, etc.).

If a pro like Paul, Cary or Halim said that I needed a certain SW update to fix a problem I would ask Kubax or Alex if they could do the update and then restore my coding settings afterwards.
