It's my understanding the M4 has more body stiffening particularly in the rear, tying the shock mounts together with a built in shock strut in the coupe. In the same article it said the M4 was designed to be quicker than the M3, just cuz. An M4 is not a 3 series car with two less doors.

Yes and don't forget the 4 series/M4 also has

"The all-new BMW 4 Series Coupe has a longer wheelbase, wider track and lower ride height than the previous-generation BMW 3 Series Coupe. Its lower suspension brings the car’s center of gravity down to below 20 inches (500 mm), giving it the lowest center of gravity of any car in the current BMW line-up"

this is why the M3 sits on the 4 platform.

I wonder, if the coupe was still named M3, would everyone be so quick to favor the sedan. sad truth but I think not.

Me too..I choose the E92 last gen M3 and loved it...But I'm really liking this 4 door.

Going to have to see what kinda lease rates they're going to offer on one of these beasts...Kid in college might force old dad to go M235i the next few years.

I sure miss my E92 M3

Yes, except you should never buy first year production for multiple reasons.

Yeah or when I see them in person something will pull me in one direction or the other. I wouldn't want to start one of those "Help me choose" threads that are all to common on forums.

Just a bit. It almost looks like an M4 with ricer-approved rolled fenders. My guess is the transition is more abrupt and pronounced here due to the 2 extra doors. In the M4 it would appear that they can use the rear quarter panels (?) to diffuse that transition.
