That GT4 is something I need to go drive. If GT3 prices stay high that maybe the ticket.

I have begun to take a hard look at the GTS or some type at cayman as a possible replacement for my F 82 down the road.

Never thought I would be a P car guy but ...It’s looking in evitable

Subjective feedback aside, that's a strong showing for the beaver. Wow.

Plato is a legit driver, fair lap time comparison.

Just 0.7 off. And figure a little something there iron vs. carbon ceramics.

718 GT4 is proper fast on circuit, step on from its predecessor which I think was a bit overrated in terms of pure pace. 0.7 gap even on a short track is remarkable.

Really too bad it looks like hell!

TBH what Plato said is probably the same feedback just about any BMW will face when compared directly next to a GT Porsche on a circuit. Hence my lukewarm reaction to the comparison in the first place lol. IMO it would have been better to stack G8X against a M4 GTS for a track battle - maybe those videos will come soon

G8x slower despite being ZF8 vs. MT on GT4. No surprise really given the relatively tight track they used. I reckon PDK GT4 will leave G8x to dust on these medium~slow speed tracks.

Looks like it'd be damn close with the G8X on Cup 2. I think we'd get the same sort of subjective findings, with the GTS being the way more engaging weapon.

Not sure how many upshifts around Castle Combe, but probably just a couple of tenths lost vs. auto. Not sure if Plato was utilizing, but GT4 has no lift shift as well.

And GT4 has carbon ceramics vs. iron on G8X. Not to make a mountain out of a molehill on that point, but when we're talking tenths.

G8X is proving to be fast, fast and ugly.

I couldn't edit it fast enough.

Obviously the GT4 was going to be lighter, but almost 700 pounds difference compared to the M4!

I never understood testing AT vs Manual especially since each car is available in either transmission. Either do MT vs MT or Auto vs PDK.
The fact that GT4 was a manual and is way down on power but still faster on track is all we need to know.

That's what I'm saying! G8X pace reminds me of another big, heavy car with shocking track performance. I think Munich even borrowed a couple of performance engineering ideas from them.. but they won't get the credit as usual.

You know the one. 'Merica.

They may have borrowed a couple other non performance/engineering touches as well...

Cannibalization be damned, Porsche needs to build a Cayman turbo...imagine the possibilities with just the 992S power plant.

They are both yellow, have four wheels and two doors. You guys are trying way too hard here to hate on the car. Yes the grill is an acquired taste but otherwise it's an improvement over the F8x in nearly every way. It's pretty normal for owners of the outgoing model to hate on it's replacement in every auto community but few put the level of effort to hate as some of you. You are entitled to it of course but it does seem strange to see a bunch of adult men have such contempt for an automobile.

Nah, you, like some others, have tried to rationalize it as "sour grapes" from owners of the older gen car. I don't think so. Most, if not all of us on here could have gotten into a G8X but the looks are really appalling. Not just the grille, but the side, fake vent, boxy mirror, charger style hood fake venting, odd black lower trim, disjointed beltline, Infinity like rear window design (aka ruined hofmeister kink), Lexus like tail lights, protruding rear bumper, no DCT offered, etc are just many of the issues many of us have with the new design. No one is contesting its a more refined F8x, but the F8x wasn't like some half baked car to begin with and if it needed refinement, it sure wasn't a whole lot. Instead, BMW tried to re-invent its design language and what you are seeing is an obvious flop in the marketplace with a lot of folks disliking it. So no, its not just a bunch of grown men who have nothing better to do than bitch about a car. Its almost everyone that has a vested interest in BMWs and particular Ms, and in this case, the M3, that has a problem with the G8x.

It's not rationalizing as sour grapes. It is sour grapes end of story. Lots of folks hated on the F80 and F82 when it came out and you know it. Read this thread from beginning to end. It's like you guys wake up in the morning and can't wait to get your daily dose of hating on the car. It's one of the more immature threads on this forum for sure.

Think whatever you want to think. Nobody's trying to convince you otherwise. None of us have any reason to believe you are right either. So as they say, just agree to disagree

BTW, you know how I know I'm right tho? I went to go see the car in person, my SA tells me, "you should keep your car, I like it a lot better". Even the people selling them don't like them.

Anecdotal, while a true account........is still anecdotal. My long time friend/Sales Manager who has worked at/for Shelly, McKenna and now Irvine BMW feels the same way yours does and mirrored your SA's words exactly, but there are other SA's I know who like the car and have sold multiple units. We all look for confirmation bias. I just wish some people in this thread recognized theirs. I don't think any of us are in any place to speak for the majorities.
