no way

because you are forgetting that all important thing called sales tax. Seriously, go ask your dealer for a quote.

I'm definitely going to have to test drive the F90 - I'm really intrigued by the speed and overall highly-favorable reviews so far, and would be especially interested in comparing, back-to-back the driving feel of an F90 Competition vs. my own 2018 M3 Competition..

The real question is would I want to spend approx. $20-30k more than my current vehicle, both spec'd out the way I want...

Comfort is also high on my priority list for my next car.

I will be considering the new M5 or E63 in 1-2 years once their depreciation hits hard.

Way, even with sales tax I’ve consistently beaten their estimate after negotiating etc.

But yeah, if I didn't have a 1yo kid right now my mind would irrationally justify this type of purchase. Lucky guy I am to have a kid as an excuse for not breaking the bank on a car, instead on diapers and college funds - much more reasonable!
I guess it depends on one's priorities, but if I am buying a car and spending $120k+, it would never be a cruiser.

I would be looking at the GT3 type sports cars.

For a daily, there is no way I am spending that much on a car.

3 months ago, I would have completely agreed. I learned a 997 cup is $60k (yes you have the pay for $$ maintenance every couple of years) so now I think it's more worth it to get the cheaper factory race car, rather than the street car

so the question is can the f90 tow

Beautiful car. OP I appreciate the comment about comfort first speed second with the next purchase. I think I too might make that decision next time. although I'm also considering going sans car and use Lyft everywhere, it's seriously compelling when you spec it out and consider the opportunity cost of not having liability or depreciation. Similar to how now sleep is way more important to me than going out with my buddies on a on a random Tuesday night.

This car has me curious but agreed $120k is a bit much. I saw that KW now have V3 coilovers for the M550i. A kit is $2500. If the F90s swaybars fit maybe a decent alternative can be had for $40k less? Not saying that it would be anywhere close to the overall performance or status of the M5 but it should still be plenty fast and handle decently. What I hear the M550’s main weakness out of the box is that it’s very soft.

As far as the price goes this is how I see it. It's all worth what someone is willing to pay. If I had that kind of money I'd buy it not caring that someone could get it for $40k less in 2 years. If you have the money and it's not taking food out of your families mouth or something else totally jacked up then go for it. I bought my M3 knowing in 2-3 years it'll only be worth $55k +\- but I don't care because it's worth it to me. However, most car manufacturers are out of their fucking minds with prices these days. It's the game we all play gentleman.

Yeah, it’s probably priced rather well for what you get and relative to the competition. It’s just with almost no inflation the last decade or so it just seems a bit high with $120k. This car has never been aimed at the poor though...

Much like the F30 and the F80 I have the distinct feeling the M550i will never feel the same as an M5. From what I hear, the M5 is getting glowing reviews despite the low dyno numbers recently posted.

This is very true and not what I meant. For me the M550i has enough go but I don’t like soft cars. I loved our E60 535i with Sports package for example but hated our F10. So for me an M550i with great handling would be a good alternative acknowledging that it would not be an economy M5 and would be slaughtered by one

This just may do the trick.
Do it! I traded my 18 M4 For one. New M5 is surprisingly athletic.
That's my dilemma. I only have a 2 car garage. I still love the M4.. and, no way I'm getting rid of the M2.

This is a serious problem. Lol.
Dump the m2&4, Get the new m2 CS. Best of both cars. Problem solved.

I may be in the minority, but I don't like how BMW did the digital cluster. Audi's virtual cockpit blows this out of the water (full disclosure, my wife drives an '18 S4 with virtual cockpit). It's like one group argued for analog, the other group argued for full digital and the leadership threw up their hands and said just combine them.

Outside of that beautiful car, but too rich for my blood.

Edit- what weird placement for the heated steering wheel button. BMW can't get that right!!

Yeah, don't you feel for those "poor" bastards that only have $85K (as opposed to $120K) to spend on a car that loses 40% of its value in 24 months. Such plebes

I guess I don't get the price complaints. Wasn't the previous M5 around 120 plus fully loaded and a similar 6 figure base price tag? I'd say for once BMW actually kept the price fairly reasonable for what you get in this car. Especially considering people are now paying 90 plus and sometimes 100k for M3/4s.

Wait a while for the early adopters to grab them and get a nice deal on one next year.

You're right. Prices went up just a little.

My 15 M5 with comp package with all of the options except CCB, night vision and rear entertainment was close to $118k sticker. My F90 without comp pack but with rear entertainment was $122k.

I think prices went up about $10k from last gen but you do get lot more tech so I guess it's a wash.

That makes sense. When I would build the old one I'd load it with everything and comp pack, but no CCBs. It would come to about 120k IIRC. So add comp pack to this and I could see 125k (no CCB).

But, like you said with all the new tech/selectable AWD etc I didn't think it was that bad of a price hike.

As an FYI, a digital dash can be made to be much more responsive and/or smooth than an analogue one. If it is not, it is because it was programmed that way. There is an inherent delay and damping with a mechanical gauge.

I had the same virtual cockpit in my R8. I guess I am ok either way. I thought E92 M3 was the best one of the analogs.
