Fuel Economy Predictions?
So the new FI M5 is out, new "slightly" improved F30 335 & unexpected pleasuring 328i is out.
Anyone take a guess at what the realistic F30/32's M3 Inline 6 Tri-turbo gas mileage would be like? |

According to this article the new F10 M5 is getting on average 24 MPG:
http://www.worldcarfans.com/11106153...ially-unveiled I figure if a Twin Turbo V8 is getting on average 24 MPG, then a V6/I6 Tri/Twin Turbo (or whatever the engine variant) should be getting better than that [I would hope] or the same. So, if I were to put down a guess, I would say the new M3/M4 should be getting an average of 25 MPG, conservatively. |

Anything more than now would be nice. I don't care about the mileage, I'm just tired of filling up all the time, and that needle constantly moving. Would love to at least achieve 20.

Range is my problem... 210/220 miles per tank is really annoying.

Yeah that's what i'm taking about. The tank needs to be a bit bigger, but I know that goes against weight. That range is crazy.

Im going to guess the next gen will be 20/25mpg range if I had to guess but who knows if could be shocking and be north of 30mpg.

So now it seems that the F80 M3 won't be none of those tri-turbo with one electric "hybrid" motor Bullsxxt.
It will be V6 3.0/3.3L Twin Turbo. Now I wonder about thie MPG battle again... On a side note, the current 550i is V8 4.4L TT 400hp/450lb and does 15/22. How can a M tuned V8 4.4L TT 560hp/502lb with more power and grunt claim to do 28~30mpg highway? (Even if there could be some weight difference, the official weight difference is within 100kg). |

Combined MPG
So, I tried to reverse the formula on the combined MPG to figure out what the city/hwy ratings are... After a while I just gave up and looked up other vehicles with the 25MPG combined (for example Volvo C30). They show the full on ratings of 21 City/ 29 Hwy.

If you pay much attention to the euro combined cycle test.....
Combined cycle for MT is 8.8 litres per 100km, which converts to 26.7 MPG US and 32.1 MPG Imp Combined cycle for DCT is 8.3 litres per 100km, which converts to 28.3 MPG US and 34.0 MPG Imp Urban is 12/11.1 litres per 100km for MT/DCT, which is 19.6/20.2 MPG US Extra Urban is 6.9/6.7 litres per 100km for MT/DCT, which is 34.1/35.1 MPG US E9x combined cycle official figures were 12.4/11.9 litres per 100km for MT/DCT, which is 18.9/19.7 MPG US Last edited by paddy335; 12-12-2013 at 09:07 PM.. |

29hwy is probable in comfort and Eco pro at 65mph. Dealer once told me he got 38 mpg in a 328 driving in those conditions on the freeway

Why all the debate on F8X Gas Guzzler Tax and MPG, BMW announced the rating right?
Current E9X MPG is 14/20 City HWY for a combined 16 MPG. Gas Guzzler Tax was $1300
BMW has clearly stated a 25% improvement for F8X which translates to 18/25 MPG and a roughly 21 MPG combined is what numbers should be compared to other vehicles with similar ratings when published, unless we were misled or I am missing something. Considering that combined MPG will be under 22.9 EPA Standard for cars, the F8X WILL have a Gas Guzzler tax but will be less than what was paid for E9X. The Gas Guzzler tax would drop to lowest rate of $1k. I hate to be the spoiler (self included) but I just don't see how my assumptions based on official BMW statements and EPA standards will be different. There goes my free HK radio upgrade unless hopefully I am proved wrong

You are playing a dangerous game interpolating numbers the way you are. There is just absolutely no way to tell until the EPA specific tests have been done.
Having said that, I have no problems believing that the car won't make the EPA rating and avoiding gas guzzler. |

Doesn't the GT500 and it's 660hp engine avoid the tax? Surely BMW, with a smaller turbo charged engine in a much lighter vehicle, can avoid it in the M3/4.
I have nothing to base this off of, but I'd expect it to not get too terribly worse economy than the 335. I'd guess somewhere around 23mpg combined and nearing 30mpg on the highway. But maybe I'm being optimistic. |

I've read 25% higher so that puts it right around 25mph highway.
But I've also seen 32-34mph highway somewhere... does anyone know where this will realistically be? |

The short answer is no, no one else besides BMW has any idea "realistically" what the mileage will be until BMW publishes it, and I have it on good knowledge from someone who works for BMW NA that the EPA tests haven't been done yet. Anything else is pure speculation.
