its funny i have been negative towards the M4. but the new vette and Mustangs i am much more pleased with although i still have my issues. my M3 is a 3 year lease, got about 2 more years left. perfect timing for the new cars if i decided to move on.

happy to see the US making appealing cars. i am excited for these cars much more than a M4. a n/a V8 or GT500 S/C V8 with a compact mustang body is going to be great. or you could get a 3.0L I6, they do sound pretty cute.

I think everyone is forgetting the fact that Ford is targeting the M3's handling, which is a direct admission that the M3 is a superior handling car with a better overall feel. For Ford to come right out and say this is huge compliment to BMW. For those who say the Mustang GT is just as good of handling car, citing the MT article with Randy Pobst, sure a pro race driver can extract everything out of a car and overcome inherent weaknesses but an amateur driver, different story. As an extreme example of driver skill overcoming a car's weaknesses, look at Sabine Schmitz driving a hauling van on the Nurburgring and nearly matching Jeremy Clarkson's time in a Jag S-type

Also, its the entire package that matters. The M3 was winning comparos versus Porsche 911 turbos and GTRs at the time, not because it was faster, but because of the entire package and how it worked together and made for an unbeatable experience. Several journalists and race drivers billed it as one of the best all around cars in the world and was probably winning 95% of every comparison test, of which subjective measures on driving experience were a component in addition to performance. Obviously, competition catches up, but would be hard pressed to believe the Mustang GT really gets those sorts of accolades at that price point. It's not like there is going to be so much content in the Mustang GT that Ford isn't making money off them, so you do get what you pay for to a certain degree.

No. It isn't made in Germany. It is a chariot for white trash. My girlfriend would leave me if she saw me driving a Ford because it does not have the prestige or motorsport history of BMW.

It's not a bad looking car, they have come along way. The newer mustangs handle much better than the previous generation ones.

buying a luxury car isn't about getting the fastest car for your money. you can spend less money and get a faster car than the BMW. If one is looking for luxury, class, and able to take it to the track, than M4. Mustangs came long way have to give them that, but seems like I will be competing with high school kids if I buy one. That being said I will go test drive the GT, to see how well it's made.

Do most of you complaining about the interior really think that BMW F30 interior looks better then the new Mustang interior? The M3/M4 interior will be identical to that 3 series interior besides different trim offerings and different steering wheel and seats.
I don't think the difference can be shown with pictures
Most of the American cars I've been in really lose when you touch any of the materials
Plastic feels rough, buttons feel cheap
Etc
Plus the Americans car are a little in your face
When a BMW is more discrete

And ofcourse, the love affair with chrome
Someone has to tell the American designers that chrome went out of style with tail fins

One of the problems with the Mustang has been weak brakes. US publications do single lap timings with cooling breaks. In a real race the BMW would win.

Funny to see people that drive the "ultimate driving machine" comparing interiors.

I wouldn't drive a BMW if I gave a sh*t about interiors. BMW interiors are nothing special, there are much better interiors coming out of Germany.

Fact is the new Mustang GT will match M4 performance specs, maybe exceed it. For a price tag near $30k. Now that it has a proper suspension, haters only have one last thing to hold on too.

In a real race the M4 turbo engine will heat soak and lose power on or about lap 5.

NA flat-plane crank V8! Yes, please.
If the next Boss has a NA flat-plane crank V8, that will just sh*t all over the force induction M3/M4. Epic track car...EPIC!

BMW is no longer making cars for hardcore track junkies. New M3/M4 will be a really good street car and an occasional newbie weekend bmwcca event.

Haaahahaha

I've heard it explained like this:

Handling - how a car feels when you drive it around a track.

Roadholding - how well a car performs (by the numbers) in roadholding in tests.

One is numbers, the other is feel. Obviously, feel is more difficult to quantify, and is somewhat subjective, but consensus isn't hard to come by. The Mustang GT has great performance and roadholding, but its handling leaves some to be desired.

It's still a fantastic car. I'm sure the 2015 is going to surprise a lot of people.
