Leather dash issue

Hello all-

Just noticed my 2016 M3 leather dash at vent has separated. I think the cause is from a UV film applied to the windscreen and the installer might have over saturated the glass during install. The car is garage kept or in a shaded carport at my office so I don't think it's from sunlight exposure. I'm posting mostly to see if this has occurred to others. Thank you.

Yea that's not right
Is it still.under warranty?
I had a 2015 with full leather and it went 29k without any issues before I sold it
My 2018 is also full leather and it's been fine
Do you use any leather products that may have had a negative affect on the leather ?

It's a bad craftmanship from factory.
Hope you still have warranty.

No cleaning product is really needed aside from a clean dry microfiber towel for the dust. The car is not under warranty. I had the UV film installed about 2 months ago and I thoroughly cleaned the glass prior to taking it in. I'd be surprised if I hadn't noticed this before. Unless it separated slowly over time and finally "broke free" from the substrate underneath the leather. Glad I can't see it from the Drivers seat! Thanks for the input, much appreciated.

I’d show the installer and ask them to cover repair. Too much of a coincidence.

I don't see how the windshield tint installer could have caused this. Excess liquid would seem to go down the vent, and not pull up right where the leather is separating.

Makes me glad I did not get full leather. I prefer these cars with the plastic/rubber. It's so much less to worry about.

That’s what the guy with an old 328 says about being glad he didn’t get an M3.

The full leather is one thing i regret not adding to my build. If anyone wants to swap or sell me their black full leather dash/glove box, etc. I'm all ears!

I second the statement above about this being bad craftsmanship at the factory. Unless the tint installer hosed your leather (which I still don't think it would cause this). I've had film on my car for 2.5 years, outside everyday zero issues with 34k miles.

If the tint installer actually over-saturated it would be very obvious on the bottom of that leather and it would've discolored the backing surface the leather is attached to very significantly, which I don't see here. However it's difficult to see on the internet lol, that's what I would look for to determine cause.

Unlike the OP, I have had no tint applied.

My dash will be replaced under warranty.

Hi, did the dealer replace the dash under warranty? If so, did they give you a hard time? I think replacing the dash is very complicated and time consuming so they would be against doing it.

I am on the same boat so I would love to hear about your experience (how long it took, etc).

Thanks!

A frequent fix for these kind of things is to take out the windshield and glue the piece back down. Much cheaper than removing dash.

Yeah I looked into what it takes to swap a full leather dash in, not a pleasant job.

The dealer did replace the dash. No hassle

Took a long time to get the dash, it came from Germany. Actual time to install was a couple of days. Bonus: I had the WiFi antenna installed for CarPlay when the new dash was installed.
