I feel like comp pack is only worth it if you drive the car a certain way. I've noticed the MDM traction mode to feel sharper on my 17 comp pack over my buddys 2015 base. If you dont enjoy sliding around corners comp package isnt worth in my opinion. Wheels/Seats/Lights are the biggest difference exterior wise and as someone stated I dont see the updated headlights which started on the 2018s. 9k is a pretty damn big difference.

I bought my m3 last week. Contemplated the same thing. Ended up buying the comp pack because I feel like resale value will be better.

2018 ZCP DCT
21K Miles
Mineral Grey/Black Int
Executive Pack
Drivers Assistance
Carbon Roof
PDC/Blindspot/Pedestrian?

I paid $57k.

This sounds like it has more to do with the software updates.

Based on exterior/interior color alone, get the one you like best. Get the comp pack car.

You're right! The 2018 here has heated rear seats and Park Distance Control as individual options but not the rest of the Executive Package (heated steering wheel, adaptive LED lights, auto high beams, side view cameras, parking assistance, HUD). I'll edit the original post.

I had the same dilemma when I was shopping for my M4.

I ended up going with a non-zcp because all the significant non-cosmetic differences can be added as mods for significantly less total cost.

The comp is a much better deal IMO than the non-comp. It is a model year newer (although more miles per year) plus the leather is a $2k upgrade and the 20" wheels will probably cost you $3k for a good used set. Software side, you can spend $600 for Bootmod3 or Thor (software and cables) to make the non-comp feel like the comp. But I would imagine the hardware (springs, dampers, roll bars) are easily $2k and maybe $500 to blackout the grille and badges. So all together, it is $8000 to turn that non-comp into a comp without any warranty if there is any left. With that said, I wouldn't take a M car with sunroof regardless of the deal.

Comp package was a requirement for me (so was individual color). I would say wait for what you want and don’t compromise. Do you want to spend $50-60K+ and feel like you made a compromise? Not me.

I’m in the same boat shopping right now. I’m surprised how well there are holding their values. Is there a tonne of these about to hit the market as people trade in for the G80?

YES - more power, updated suspension/wheel-tire package, updated seats, extended shadow line exterior. Those made a difference for me. I'm not sure $9K will mod a non-comp package to match. If I had to do over, I'd get the Competition with Executive Package.

Picked up MY18 ZCP and think it is definitely worth it. Haven't really pushed the car yet but if you get the V2 exhaust it's definitely worth it!

Growing on me I have to say and much better in person. Seems like a big upgrade on the interior and engine but the F80 is a beauty in comparison.

I would also say the additional year (and the warranty coverage) should be factored into this.

The interior HAC controls and shifter console is not for me, the dash is way too busy and the auto shifter just like any other BMW models.

I just hope some people trade their individual F8x in for a G8x so I can swoop it up. Won't catch me dead in that hideous monstrosity

The dealers I've spoken to say demand is kind of tepid for the G8x so they aren't seeing a lot of voluntary trade-ins. However the lease returns this year are particularly low mileage because nobody drove for the past year.

So, not seeing more volume but they are seeing higher quality in the pre-owned inventory.

These are not the only two cars out there, and I certainly wouldn't base a comp/non comp decision on the merits of these two cars. I also wouldn't worry about resale - the car is going to be how many years old by the time your ready to sell, LOL? What I WOULD worry about is what you want and whether the comp package provides more of what you want. If it does, then find the right comp package car.

That’s true but these two are real choices in my area that provide a real proxy for the market.

There are 36 M3s for sale on Autotrader across America right now that meet the following criteria: 2015-2018, <30K miles, 6MT, no accidents.

The cheapest base M3 is $49,180 for a 2017 with 22,249 miles. https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-...ngId=578053087
The cheapest M3 Comp is $55,888 for a 2017 with 18,468 miles. https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-...ngId=581091125

So at a national level if the Competition Package is all that matters to you the price of admission is about $6,500. More than the original MSRP of the option, so I think it’s a valid question on whether it’s still worth it in the used market.

Good data. Given you prefer comp pack, that's what you should get. Especially if you plan on keeping the car for a decent amount of time. Any time I didn't get what I really wanted it cost me more later.

A cursory look at the cars in those links shows the lower priced one is MY2016 non-CPO, not MY2017, and the higher priced one is CPO MY2017 from a BMW dealer. So the price difference is due to CPO, newer MY and comp package, not just comp package.
