Used 2018 M4 Vert vs. 2015 Carrerra S Vert

Basically the same price, the m4 is essentially brand new but price cut due to return, has comp package. The Carrera S has 7k miles, two years factory warranty and is loaded.

This is for a daily driver, no track, and back seats virtually never used (and I have an SUV in the house if needed).

Of course, I could just keep my M6 Vert....

That's a tough one. I would normally always say Porsche but the 3 year gap is big. Some questions to ask yourself..

Are you financing/leasing or buying outright? BMW will offer a better finance/lease package.

Are you planning to keep the car a long time? Over 5 years? If so, perhaps the BMW is a better option considering its 3 years newer now.

What do you enjoy driving more? for me, it would be the Porsche hands down.

Will finance half
3 years probably
Used to BMW, never owned a 911. Would have to spend more time in the 911.

A quick test drive in both should make the decisions fairly easy. I honestly think the 911 is a much more comfortable car for daily driving to and from work than my F80 ZCP. The seats are better, better driving position, suspension is amazingly smooth yet track capable, better steering and brake feedback and it has the feel of a sports car versus a souped up, high performance budget or family car. Lacking only that low end turbo torque of the F8X which is hindered by traction issues anyway and rear seat room. The 911 has plenty of performance for daily driving on public streets.

Fake news, having extensive experience in both, an f83 is a much better Daily.. more comfy.. better tech etc. no doubt a 911 is a better "sports car" but that's not what we are speaking about here. The weight penalty and low torque of a 911s make it feel sluggish around town

I really don't get the comfort comment. The 911 is one of the most comfortable cars out there and just as comfy as my DB11.

Do you have ZCP? The seats are hard and uncomfortable compared to our 997.2 seats and the 911 has a much better ride. I honestly feel like my F80 ZCP is not comfortable and I used to drive my Lotus and 991.1 GT3 to work almost daily sometimes so I am not opposed to tight suspensions and sport seats.

One of my business partners who is a former linebacker for University of Kentucky and drives nothing but Mercedes recently rode in our 997.2 and said it was the most comfortable car he has ever ridden in.

Even the 997.2 is not even close to being sluggish around town. I honestly don't get it.

As someone who's driven the Porsche (same year, too). I say you have to go for it. The m4 has its merits, but the Porsche is much more fun, has a bit more panache, and offers a nice engine note. At the end of the day, you can't go wrong with either. If it were me, I'd likely take the m4 convertible as I can't have more than 2 cars in my current living situation and always find myself having to drive others around. The back seat in the m is a saving grace at times.

This is true! I hate maintenance on a rag top.

To my vain eyes, even the Carrera 4/4S/GTS/GT3 don't look nearly as wide as an M4 these days (i.e. not in love with it). Only the Turbo/RS models truly look widebody which is de rigueur.

If GTS+, yes, no question. Anything below, the M4 takes the cake + cash easily for me. Regardless of price, the M4 rear is just so money.

If the above doesn't bother you, Porsche 911 all the way.

P.S. Options make a huge diff in 911 land. 2015 headlights are going to look really dated without the blacked out LED headlights option which wasn't even available IIRC. 2018 LCI 2.0 lights are so money. Sans full leather, 911 interior looks rather basic.

I love the M4 but the 911 wins here for me, esp. if you already have another car and don't need the rear seats of the M. The 911's driving dynamics and exhaust note are both just amazing.

Thought about it and decided to stay with my paid for 2013 M6 another year rather than pony up the 45k needed to buy either car.....

Thats actually a good way to go. I would have done the same.
WOuld just do some tuning to the M6 and it would probably make it a new car

The key to making the decision is; what option does the 991 have?
The hard top factor for the M4 is negated by the magnesium top for the 991.
Porsche can be totally different according to the options. Sport chrono, PSE, 14 way or 18 way seats, pdk or 7mt, PDCC, etc..

Sounds like you should keep driving your current car. Changing to those two seem like a downgrade to me.

Maybe put a good exhaust and few other minor performance tweaks and that should keep you entertained for another year or two
