I have just over 50,000 miles on my 2019 13-month old M4. It has been tuned with BM3 (91 stage 1) since 5,000 miles. I drive the shixt out of my car and have no issues to report other than a headlight needing to be replaced. I do have the mechanical break-down coverage from Geico.

By abuse I mean NOT maintaining it while driving it at 10/10 most of the time.

BMW's oil change schedule is roughly every 10,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first. My 2016 is still under free maintenance, so the dealer does the 10,000 mile changes and I do mid-interval oil changes at 5,000 miles.

Check the vehicle service notifications in iDrive - brake fluid and coolant flush (usually every 2 years), brake pads, periodic scan via OBDII to check for any issues that may not turn on a CEL or yellow triangle warning, tire wear (might need alignment), suspension "play" (wheel bearings, bushings, ball-joints, shocks), etc. The "Tech Talk" editor in the BMW CCA magazine (Roundel) has an old-school maintenance schedule that is a pretty good guide, although some items might not apply to newer models. Some owners like to change differential and transmission fluids at certain mileage intervals, although that may vary with the M-Diff and M-DCT. It's also a good idea when changing oil to check other things as well. Last time I had my oil changed at my indy shop, they found 2 items that needed attention - a diff seal leak and a torn ball joint boot, both of which I was able to have fixed under warranty just before it expired.

I'll get the hub replacement after my warranty is over, I don't plan on tracking the car if over modifying the car as I can only use the car for a few months a year as is. The $4k hub is a good investment after the wary expires as I plan to keep the car for a long time.

Thanks for this thread. My factory warranty expires in three days. We bought our car used in late April with 35k miles. It's now at 41k miles with no problems outside of an exhaust rattle where the dealership replaced the entire muffler under warranty.
We're considering an extended warranty for 3yrs/75k miles for $4700. It's three years from the expiration of the factory warranty and 75k total miles. One of the main reasons we're considering it is because we have an F83 (hardtop convertible). I haven't been able to find out much information on the top's longterm reliability. Heck, all signs point to this car being solid, so I guess we can save the $4700 and bank it for possible future repairs. |

I don't think its needed. never had a warranty on my f30, f80, gtr or 458. But they were also weekend cars (except the f30) seeing less than 5k miles a year. I did 30k miles in the f30 and it was fine aside from replacing a charge pipe.
crankhub issues are overblown. But if a blown crank is going to put you in financial ruin then either get a warranty, or use the warranty money to get a cheap beater to keep miles off the M.

I would 100000% get an extended warranty on a BMW (or any German car for that matter). My F80 M3 has been ok but my E90 M3 had the DCT and Nav replaced under the extended warranty. That's some serious $$$ right there. I also had the Navigation unit replaced on my GT-R under extended warranty so I broke even on that one.
