yeah, thought about it but bit too much of a straight 'drag race' for what I am going for (usually don't include those whether the M wins or not) - mostly going for the subjective tests here....

That said, we'll "watch this space" to see how it comes out and will include the results however they turn out in the list at the top of this thread. What was shocking to me, though, was this comment on the forthcoming coupe: Quote:
and over 400 lbs heavier that the M4? I will believe it is a great car (as I believe the C63S is a great car) but....crap. So much for weight savings in this gen....

My RS5 is 1,800 kg, with awd included, exactly as the C63 coupe without awd.

Edit:See updated list in post #129 below
Soooo...after a little over a year, I did some tabulation. In doing this, I took all the ones in my original post current to today (Dec 8/2015). I removed any ones where there was a less than clear winner. I also removed any 'mass comparisons' (ie: Top 10 cars of 2014, etc) as those were not really the head-to-head fights I wanted to look at. So here is an image that summarizes the 37 odd comparisons since this car launched: To break down those numbers a bit more, a few things stand out: The car is a winner Here is the total breakdown: Total Reviews 37 Total Wins 26 Total Losses 11 But what about the losses? Well, a few things things stand out: It isn't your imagination; UK reviewers were much harder here is the geographic breakdown between UK, USA and Rest of the World in wins and losses: Wins in UK 11 Wins in USA 11 Wins in ROW 4 Losses in UK 8 Losses in USA 3 Losses in ROW 0 While it is a winner everywhere, the reception in the UK has been the most 'negative'. In fact, Autocar is particularly harsh accounting for fully 4 of the 8 'UK' losses (or over 1/3 of the worldwide total). For whatever reason, the UK press had a hard on for this car - something Chris Harris called them out on. Like the E90 M3 (as I showed here) the early comments were most harsh Of the 11 losses, 5 of those were in the first two months - out of 9 total comparisons over that time. Since then, there have been 28 further comparisons with only 6 losses. How about the competitors? Here is a quick summary of some of the cars against which it has been compared multiple times: Wins over C63S 8 Losses to C63S 3 Wins over RC-F 9 Losses to RC-F 0 Wins over ATS-V 2 Losses to ATS-V 1 Wins over 911 1 Losses to 911 1 Wins over Cayman 2 Losses to Cayman 0 While I think the 911 and Cayman tests are interesting, to my mind the most relevant are (in this order) the C63S, ATS-V and RC-F. On those scores, it has (again) been a winner - probably by a larger margin in the case of the C63S than I would have guessed (I had expected those to be much closer). The American press is obviously quite taken with the ATS-V and nobody, it seems, really cares for the RC-F. Anyway, I'll keep updating the list at the top of this thread but....figured this summary might be of some interest.

Here's another where the M4 comes out ahead of the GT-R, C63, and RS5. http://www.carsguide.com.au/car-revi...5-review-30158

Do you know how many flame wars this post will snuff out in the future? The simple cut/pasting of this link dropped into any inflammatory thread is the equivalent of an 8-Mile mic drop.
Please get yourself down to Texas so we can repay you with some southern hospitality (Deep fried snickers, Lone Star beer, BBQ and a free side of diabetes).

Updated Summary
So as it has been a few months with a few more comparos since the last 'compilation' in post 117, thought I would update this list.
Here it is: To give some context: We now have 43 comparisons. 29 of those have been won by the F8X (so now 67% winning rate vs 70% in December) Again, the UK still leads the boo brigade (9 of 20 comparos with an F8X loss, that is out of 14 total losses worldwide) The USA is still solid F8X ground (4 losses out of 15 comparos). In the rest of the world, the F8X reigns - 1 loss out of 8 comparos. Still dominating over the C63S (9 wins in 12 tests) More balanced against the ATS-V (3 wins of 5 comparos) Still undefeated against the RS4/RS5 ...and only Car magazine in that recent test said the RC-F was better. ....because they don't like the engine. Because it isn't a V8. Anyway, as always, if you find any others, let me know and I will add them to the list at the top of this thread and to this chart as I update it.

Adding it to the list. But to correct, while the ATS-V wins, they don't award a second or third place. Edit: actually, just realized it is a repost - it is the same as the CNET article review posted in January. So removing it from the list again.

Nice start in the drag race by the M3 driver as well. It wasn't gonna win, but the start definitely didn't help. |
