Agreed, Zf trans is nothing amazing. I'm guessing you are looking for a smoother driver. DCT is a bit harsh at times.

But I did not lease an M4 for a smooth ride.

I'd go out of my way to say the ZF is just as fast if not 90% as close.

While being a ton smoother, and easier to manipulate. Not to mention, launching is a breeze.

Secondly; the car definitely handles just as good as the M4, if not better. It's VERY rigid.

You have to drive it to believe it. The noise is makes is like a mix of a Maserati and C63. In other words, nuts.

can you give some deals on the lease? do you have a relationship with a dealer, or did you just negotiate hard at end of month? they must have taken 15-20k off sticker?

I bought an M4 one year ago. Had it for about 7-8 months and got rid of it.

Fast forward to today (after asking you guys which to buy, I pulled the trigger on it)

2016 F-Type R. Pearl white with ivory stitching. Black Pack as well. Vision pack.

Let's get to the review now..

M4 - What I liked and what I didn't like.

+ It was a looker.
+ It was decently quick even stock
+ I got a great deal on it lease wise

- It sounded terrible. (sorry, actually not really)
- It had too little tire for the gearing + torque aka. spin central.
- Very detached for the driver. I'm not talking feel, I'm talking not so immersive, not much soul.

F-Type R:

+ Holy god. The noise..
+ The transmission is better than DCT (there you go, I said it).
+ The looks... I literally haven't seen a more beautiful car in a long time.
+ The car "outfeels" the M4 by a LONG shot. So much soul and actual steering feel. It's amazing. And GLUED to the road.

- The price. (Although I got a steal for my payment)
- Somewhat "okay" nav. Nothing to write home about, sort of slow.
- It's 40k more than the M4.

Is it worth it? Well.. I got a $110,000 F-Type R for $980 a month. ZERO drive off fee. Zero down. I walked in, and walked out. 36 months/10k miles.

It's a steal.

Am I happy for the first time in a long time.. **** yes I am.
What an amazing car. Also it's faster than the F10 M5 I had.

Glad we could help! Enjoy

Beautiful car, OP! I'd love an F-Type R myself. Curious as to how you scored such a sweet deal!

Glad you are enjoying the car, I agree with you on the looks...one of the nicest looking cars on the road today. Was also pleasantly at how much better Jags have gotten under the new ownership. I am planning on getting my wife the F Pace, looks incredible.

These threads make me laugh. More so a validation of your purchase ... The f type r sounds great .. But if u think the zf is better than the dct and the f type r handles better than the m4, than u are really drinking the koolaid. Never the less, enjoy the car in good health.

Congrats. Very few cars get my attention, but that one definitely does. DCT, ZF, ....all semantics. The goal is driver connection where I can see where the Jag wins out. Doesn't make me love my M3 any less, but once you feel that in a car it's a personal connection.

To me, one of the simply most enjoyable cars to look at right here. Not a bad angle on her. Just like jags of old - they did great.

And I understand and respect your handling comments too - you aren't saying it's faster around a track, you are saying it FEELS better doing it. More confidence inspiring, more controlled, etc....which I understand as there are lots of slower cars I've driven that FEEL better. And AWD tends to inspire more confidence IMHO.

That deal is pretty amazing too. I would be hard-pressed to walk away from that deal.

Thanks!

You hit it on the head. I'm not saying "it's faster" than M4. (Although in a straight line it definitely is)

It does what the M4 can do with a bunch of feel/soul added on top. Sure lap timess may be right there, and it's not exactly the lightest GT cruiser. But the thing has purpose.

@kief. Yes. I just had to do it. I saw what the fuss was about!

It's called emotion! Hard to describe, but you know it when you drive it

I think it was your last thread that I professed my love for the Jag after driving one. I really love my M3 but the Jag was more fun to drive, it just was. I need the practicality of the 4 doors right now, otherwise I'd be in an F type over an M4 all day long.
