Congrat's.
A little surprised to hear the M3 is quiet and comfortable ride compared to a 992. My 911's had a more comfortable and compliant ride than my F80 M3, which was rather harsh.

One of my fellow track rat owns a big GM dealer. He extensivelly tracked all Corvette variants since he can have them for very very cheap. However, he now owns and tracks a 991.2 GT3RS. I think that's quite telling.
From what I was told by him, only the MT got fixed, the AT still struggles.

If he’s able to share more details about why he prefers it to zr1 or z06 i would really appreciate it. I haven’t come across too many people with experience on both those platforms. |

i've had that chat with him, I will limit my input here as I don't want to over interpret was he's told me. But from what I gather, it is the overall experience, the driving feel and pleasure from the precision engineering as well as the piece of mind that comes the bullet proof track capability of the GT P-cars.

OP, was your F80 tuned? And if so, you still think the 992S is faster on a straight line or on pulls? I know the 992S is definitely underrated in power. My current F82 is on bm3 stage1, and I’m strongly considering a 992S next.

Drove a 992 2S today. Puts down power perfectly and pulls.
Jumping into my car right after made it feel like a 328! It was cooler outside and re71r tires were cold. Tires just spin. 992 is well worth the premium IMO. I've driven 911 4s, turbo and 2015 gt3. |

The M3 is a great car, but unique car that IMO does 2 diff things good, but not great.
Its decent for a daily (though a bit stiff IMO) And its not bad on the track (or windy road), but something like a 911 would absolutely outperform it So its left in this weird area where its an amazing sedan, but an average daily car and an average (probably below average tbh) track car It has the best of both worlds, but doesnt do either that well. |

I like how the M3’s legit dual purpose capability has become so passe. It’s still the best to ever do it, by far.
M3 appreciation will be proportionate to maximization of use. Try this experiment -- Take a mildly modded E9X or F8X during winter, pack up track wheels and a week’s worth of gear. Drop your son at school the next morning and head south. Stop in the Appalachian’s, drive mountain roads for a couple of days. Continue south, hit 2-3 tracks, run with 997 GT3s, Vettes, Mustangs, stripped out low powered race cars and dudes who admire that your family car, caked in road salt, is running with them. Drive home 1400 miles in reasonable comfort, 2X mpg, hand keys over to wife the next morning because she wants “her” car back for the day’s drive. Then revisit just how much M3’s suck and don’t do anything particularly well.

That being said, the G8X does not appeal to me, so I will also be one of those switching to a 992. I have a deposit down for a 2021 911turbo

I am going for the turbo and not the turbo-S, so it comes with iron rotors (PCCB are standard on the -S only).

Iron specs might be same as 991 GT? If so and you decide to upgrade pads, RSL 1 are very solid.

The 911 turbo has always been a phenomenal handler though. I think it’s often overshadowed by the GT2/3/RS variants which are certainly sharper but the turbo is sharper than most anything else that isn’t a track day special. In 2017 for MotorTrend’s best driver car comparison the Turbo placed 3rd and only missed first place by a couple votes. It placed behind the 488 and 718 S but beat out the ZL1 1LE Camaro, AMG GT-R, Giulia Quad, Corvette Grand Sport, Mclaren 570, Miata RF Club, and Nismo GT-R. Plenty of great driver cars and worth competitors too which should Be a testament to how precise and sharp they are. Last edited by HeelToeShift; 10-28-2020 at 01:18 PM.. |

I joined the forum a bit later, but I've also owned an E46 purchased in 2001. I've really enjoyed the ///Ms throughout the years, but I no longer relate to the G8X. I'll sure post pictures once I get my new beast nest summer .

Love it's all around utility and sportiness but the 911 is much more tuned in for spirited driving.
