I'm planning to buy out my 2018 at end of lease. Any tips on getting the best finance rate, CPO, warranty etc? Or just in general anything to watch out for? Thanks

In a very short time, I've built up a network of 15 BMW dealers, and I do the lion's share of all BMW deals on a popular leasing forum website. I myself sell 80+ BMWs per month, and I've learned a lot about what works and what doesn't work.

There is a lot of misinformation on this forum that is either anecdotal or a true unicorn deal when all the stars lined up on one particular car buying day.

I hope to clear the air and pull back the curtain on some of the shady ways car dealers try to make money off unsuspecting buyers.

To start:

----5-6% is invoice for BMWs depending on where you live. Dealers do not lose money if they sell you a car under invoice.

----12% is triple-net-zero for dealers just to move a unit. They are losing money on your deal with the hopes of hitting a BMW bonus tier. For some high volume dealers, they must sell over 200 cars that month to get a $500- $1000 bonus on every car sold that month.

-----Flagship money is a hidden incentive to move certain models. It's specific to the production date of the car sometimes. For example, an 2020 M8 built in 2019 has $10,000 flagship compared to a $2000 for a 2020 M8 built in 2020!
Be sure to ask the forum or dealer if there is any flagship money you should be aware of!

For non-M cars, your goal should be 12% off before incentives/rebates AND a base money factor.

Dealers can easily make the discount look better if they mark up the money factor.

[SIZE="4"]ASK AWAY! I'll do my absolute best not to self-promote and keep it educational and fun!

You are a jerk and an idiot for laying this out.

What is shady about profit? The shirt on your back has a 500% markup. People spend $5 at Starbucks for $0.8 cents worth of liquid. Many business make 30 plus percent margins on everything we buy and use daily. Yes you want discounts and a good deal but you think a dealer should make zero above and beyond a possible kickback for volume? Good luck buddy. You brokers are all fake super heroes that think they are going to save everyone.

Spoken like a true disgruntled car sales person.

Everyone who is fiscally intelligent searches out the best deal. No one forces a dealership to sell a car at any amount. They choose to if they want to move the car.

So, get off your high horse and grab the next "up" on the lot or pray your manager tosses you a "spoon".

Cheers!

Nothing shady about make a profit, but you don't go to starbucks anxious that the person in front of you might be getting cheaper cup of coffee than you did or you may be paying $50 for your cup. Most pricing and deals are laid out pretty clearly...not most auto dealers.

You are also talking about the 2nd biggest purchase for most people, not a $20 T-shirt or $5 cup of coffee.

Thanks for your input although the name calling is a bit off-putting. This is a community forum built to help others with various needs, and I did see a lot of misinformation when it came to deal making. I'm not pretending I'm not here to earn customers, but arming those who don't/can't work with me with knowledge is a good thing, right?

Again, thanks for the input. If you do work at a dealership as someone here suggested, I'm sure you will be fine. Even at the dealers I work with, 90% of their customers have no clue what's going on. To your point, we can't save them all, and dealers can't give away every single car. It's the unfortunate truth that dealers and brokers need the unsuspecting retail customers for polar opposite reasons.

Stay safe and healthy!

The Blue Moon T-shirt I'm wearing was free BTW

I am a business owner and when I see this type of things it bothers me because profit is not a dirty word.

Being anxious about the guy at the water cooler driving it for $15 less a month shouldn't matter to you if you are looking at these caliper cars to begin with. Your suggestion was to reach for bottom bottom and not considering somebody's time, their family's, their business. Your a broker and hold back plenty of money for your own pocket so you can feed your family. You are not doing charity work. Nobody gets ripped unless they are stupid but a deal is what you make of it. If you have an M5 and lease it and the guy down the block leased it for $50 dollars more a month what real difference is that? It's a bottle of wine. A dinner. Give me a break.

You are unprofessional and unethical to go online and unload this obviously internal info given to you by the dealers for your own benefit. Without a dealer you are a guy in his bedroom trying to steal their customers. The source accepts you in and you unload these internal facts online?

Yes, you want the best deal and that is smart. A deal is what you make of it. There is work and effort done on a salespersons part just like the cook in the restaurant making your dinner you eat. Everybody in this world is entitled to make a living and being fair is important. This broker suggested bottom bottom based on his mapped out layout of a dealers apparently internal info given to him.

He acquired this obviously internal info based on trust and his relationship with the dealers and is unethical to go online and use it for his own benefit obviously to get customers. He needs the source and it's sorta like biting the hand that feeds you to unload private info like that.

Lots of assumptions in your post there. Unless you know any of that for fact then no need to respond. All of this is off topic to the post.

No one is forcing dealers to sell at 10-12% discount. If you don’t feel comfortable asking for that, then feel free to pay more. Anyone that does research online can find out how much discount to get on a new BMW. He isn’t giving away any secret information.

These cars are a commodity. I'm so confused at the point you are trying to make here.

By your logic, businesses should profit as much as they can and prey on uneducated customers.

Let me be the first to tell you, there is something called the internet that has a bunch of information for people who look for it. It's amazing.

Let me also be the first to tell you, everyone around you likes to save money. Whether it's saving 2 cents on a gallon of gas for your M4 or saving $10,000 on an M8, people do it, you do it, and you feel good about it.

Also, dealers can provide triple net, MF, incentives, residual info to anyone who asks. It's not some secret sauce or trade secret. Most are happy to oblige because they want educated customers more than unsuspecting ones.

It's a public forum, so still trying to play nice in the sandbox.

If this explanation doesn't help, or if you aren't satisfied, what would you like me to do?

Want me to denounce bargain hunters?

"Stand back, and stand by!"

There is a reason why dealerships and car salesperson have the reputation they do. A cook doesn't used third party crooks to sell their food. Dealerships are completely unnecessary, Everytime I walk into a showroom is a waste of time . . Tesla has the best idea

Not sure what business you are in but unless you are bringing more value than your next competitor at same or cheaper price then you will not be in business long.

There are MANY BMW dealers all selling the same exact product and therefore bring almost zero value to a knowledgeable BMW client. For the most part we know much more than they do about the product they are paid to sell. Therefore there is no reason for me to pay a certain dealer more $$$ than another 1 as the product is the same. Dealers are just middle man. Also its not $50/month variance for prices. It is up to several hundred per month plus down payment etc which can all add up to thousands of dollars. Sites like this forum and Edmunds provide transparency to the consumer that seeks the info for fair deal.

The average bmw customer may not be educated on all the aspects that generate the cost of the car payment or lease, but it's their responsibility to do their homework. The average customer may also not know all the details about their car and they may not care. We are active on the boards because we do care and we do our homework. Dan is providing awesome information for anyone who wants to learn, but this information is on the internet in plenty of other places!

If you are so righteous and worried about people losing profit, why shit all over Dan's thread? Who is to say his way of selling cars is any less legitimate than dealers? If anything this method is more transparent.

I must Thank you again! We finally picked up the carbon black 2021 x5 m50i that we had our eyes on... it took quite a bit of work to get to 10% and free floor mats. I wouldn’t settle on just the 10%

Thank you to those who replied about this, much appreciated.

I'll just say one more thing about this before putting it to rest.

I want to give him the benefit of the doubt and say maybe he, as a new member here, thought I was giving away trade secrets and internal info/numbers for everyone to see?

Maybe that's why as a business owner he got fired up reading it on his phone while on his 3rd glass of a nice cabernet?

Then I get it?

Yes. Just the front 4. They wouldn't budge on the back storage area. I left the offer lay for 3 days...

If you take an x3m and m3 that have the same exact msrp, which one would do you believe will have the better lease? I don't think the m3 residual and MF numbers are out yet but any guesses?

M3 residual should be close if not same as the 3 series at 58% for 10k
incentives are bad right now for the x3m so the m3 will be better

Dan - Can you answer a few questions about working with an auto broker. My apologies is these are already answered in this long thread. Thanks for your guidance here.
1. When you ship a car, does it go directly to the customer's home or to a local dealer?
2. Can you order a car for Performance Center Delivery in Spartanburg? (3-series in my case)
3. Is the lease turn-in process affected? (In the past when leasing another BMW from a dealer, I think they have been more lenient on minor issues than if I was just turning the car in and walking.)

No worries!

1. We use a 3rd party transport service, so it can go directly to a customer's home, office, or wherever we tell them to drop it off.

2. Yes you can!

3. Usually not? Your local dealer's profit generator is the parts/service department so they don't want customers to get annoyed at them whether or not you bought the car from them.
