Ok. I've no idea where my local dealers M technician got his info from with regards not driving the car, but when you have two service staff telling you not to drive the car, you feel like you don't have a lot of choice!

The salesman that sold me the car checked the vin number for me earlier in the week. They only had the recall notice, so I'm told, on Tuesday. He advised it was a recall for those impacted. Thankfully mine wasn't one of them. Apparently depends on which of their manufacturers produced your car's diff.

Just rang the dealer, my car is affected. The woman at the servicing department seemed to think it was more of an m3/4 issue than all M cars, but not sure how clued up she was.

She said the bulletin said the car is OK to drive, but the plates in the differential will wear out quicker and they can make a noise when driving.

Should get the replacement parts in 2-3 weeks.

Frustrating I have to contact the dealer and not vice versa. It seems like quite an extensive problem. The woman was downplaying it saying only 5 cars at the dealer they had were affected.

It could affect all M cars. That was what I was told by my dealer also.

http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1285568

Apparently up to 3800 cars affected, by the looks of the update.

I had my RIS today and asked them to double check about recalls. Apparently I'm not on any list.

Small update.....

Went in the dealers today to pick up the loan car. They said the complete diff needs to be replaced as it needs to go back to BMW. I had read on m3cutters someone had been told that their car would just have components inside the diff replaced, but this is not the case with my car.

So in conclusion, they now know what bits to order, but no idea when they will turn up, and hence complete the job.

I have a brand new 530d M Sport that has come straight from Thorne to run around in till its fixed and I must admit, this is a very good car. Not driven an F10 before and very impressed with it. However it does have a list price with options of nearly £50k.

Same here. Like you said imy vehicle also needs a new diff. They have not been told when it will arrive, but dealer ordered one last week.

Having to make do with the 750i which is nice, but no M car.

Saying that it has the new idrive, wireless charging etc so it's been interesting to play around with those. Have to say I've been impressed with the new 7, it's come on leaps and bounds from the last generation.

But after ALMOST getting my hands on it my F83 this is such an anticlimax!

Garage List
At least some small consolation is that you are being given decent cars to run about in whilst the issue is resolved.

Imagine them handing you a 116i!!! No disrespect to 116i owners

The F10 is a great car and near the end of its life cycle so just shows you how good it is.

Can't wait for the new G30 that will be a cracker.

I tell you what Wills2 this 530d is an astonishingly good car as a drivers car. I'm gobsmacked by how good it is as a was expecting a wallowly old boat of a car, not at all. As you say, nearing the end of its lifecycle, its the best F10 you are going to get.

Just been out for a good blast and I'm amazed how good the handling is, there is hardly any body roll and I'd go as far as saying there is less body roll than my 335d with ACS springs (which probably shows how crap the standard dampers are!). Its so flat on cornering, god knows how they've done it but for a heavier car it actually feels more agile than my 335d and certainly does not feel like a bigger car.

Its on non adaptive M Sport suspension and its also very comfortable. The seats are brilliant and actually smell of leather! I think what helps it that it doesn't have the god awful Bridgestones but surprisingly Dunlop SP Sport's which is very good for a run flat tyre. Miles better than the Bridgestones.

Power delivery from the 30d engine is quite abrupt but soon runs out of steam, whereas the 335d lasts a bit longer - and the M3 much longer!!! You feel that although this seems a "fast" car to drive around town due to the torque, as soon as you give it welly for say overtaking it runs out of steam.

Main issue for me is the lack of VSS - too much arm twirling is needed!!! After having it on the M3 and 335d its a pain on this car, but apart from that I really cant fault it, its a really good car.
I might do a write-up/pics on f30post about it as those guys may be more interested than M3 owners.

I knew you were going to say it has the passive Msport suspension, it's a really good set up on the F10.

Yes its very good. Not as tied down as the M3 obviously and gets a little floaty if you drive like a loon (this is where the M3 comes in ), but for fairly rapid progress, its quite a machine and really surprised me.

I switched from a C63 Estate to a 535i Touring F11 LCI and no one believed me when I said the F11 was a better car, especially handling (but minus lack of sound and some loss in performance). They really are amazing cars.

To keep somewhat on topic: the C63 didn't even come with a LSD as standard!

I always thought a car with effectively 1 wheel drive with a 6.2 V8 was a bit crazy.

just spoke to my dealer and my car is also affected...! thought this was only cars built between May and July? mine was a March build.

he said there's a huge back log of orders for the diff and it could be months before they get round to replacing mine but said driving it is fine until it's replaced.

BMW are supposed to writing to all in due course...

gtsussex rjwojcik are either of your cars affected by this?

Wow! As far back as March builds, mine was built in Feb I wonder if this is going to extend backwards as they discover more issues.

Well mine was built after the date and is being held at the factory for a new diff. I have been told the parts will be there on 10th August.

This must be a much bigger problem than they thought or they are playing safe and changing more than they need to

It's great that BMW are admitting to it and replacing parts without issue. So many manufacturers bury their heads in the sand when it comes to some problems.

Had my RIS done last weekend, I specifically asked them for any recalls, they said none. She even showed her... screen.

BTW, for those on a service pack that didn't get any paperwork, I got one. It was an invoice, just with a zero balance.

Interesting. Best ask I suppose. Had a horrible attack at the M25/M11 northbound yesterday. Car felt awful - almost as if I had a bush that had gone. Then I realised I had the bloody DSC and TC on. Oooooh, it's horrible... Just ruins what is just a wonderfully balanced car.....

PS Damo. You need to come out in the beast now. Best get your wallet at the ready
