CCB to base brake swap?

Buying a used m4 with 14,000 miles with CCBs. These are overkill for me.

1) is it even possible to swap for factory base brakes?
2) what is market $AMT for swap (ie base brakes + cash)?

Depending on the condition, Used CCB can be sold for ~$2000(calipers only) to $8000 (very good rotor condition). A set of used standard brakes can be sold for ~$2000 to $3000.

I'll be very interested if your rotors are in good condition (you need to post pics on the wore mark). Since I already have BBK I can ship you my standard brakes (less than 10k miles of use) first.

Sell the CCB rotors for ~$6000, use ~$1500 to get M2C iron rotors and booster. Coding required.

Base brakes + $4000-4500 for CCBs seems to be the average trade price + labor.

The swap consists of swapping rotors, calipers and pads, brackets, shields, brake boosters and coding.

Going from CCB to iron rotors requires a different booster and coding. Misinformation and brakes don’t mix.

Contact any dealer with discount for the OEM rotors of the M2C, the OEM booster for iron rotors of the M3/M4 (all the P/N are in this forum), a coder and installer and that’s it.

Carbon-Ceramic Brakes on the F80 M3 and F82 M4 offer many advantages over traditional cast iron rotors and we don't fault anyone for checking that box when the car was ordered. However, it's clear that the long-term costs for these exotic materials are hard to justify. If you track your M3/M4 with CCB you will soon find out exactly how much more it costs to own this advanced technology.

A better option is to retrofit traditional cast iron rotors and matching pads in place of your CCB discs. This is easily accomplished using the front and rear rotors from the 2019+ F87 M2 Competition model. The M2C brakes are the same exact size and other critical dimensions as the M3/M4 CCB rotors. You can bolt on the M2C rotors with no changes to the calipers, hubs, or dust shields of your M3/M4. New brake pads are required.

New brake pads are required!!!! Original CCB pads are not designed for iron rotors. This listing includes rotors only. Any brake pad designed for the M2 Competition will also work. We have track and street pads for this model and will be happy to advise on what pad would be appropriate for your driving. Click here for M2 Competition brake pads.

Note: any alteration from original will change the brake bias and coefficient of friction. Under normal driving you are not likely to notice the change in bias but the brakes will feel different and some adjustment period will be required (brakes will actually feel very much like a stock M2 Competition). Proper brake pad bed-in is required. For track use, brake bias can be compensated for with different pad compounds.

Front and rear iron rotors are required. Do not mix iron components with carbon components. This listing is for the front cast iron rotors only. See below for rear rotors.

Pads are not included and must be purchased separately.

These are Genuine BMW parts.

OP, keep in mind that swapping your CCBs to iron M2C rotors will add a good amount of unsprung weight to all 4 corners of your car. I'm guessing around 5-6lbs more at each corner which could have a negative effect on handling/acceleration.

Also, say goodbye to a brake dust-free life! You'll be cleaning your wheels every day once you go back to regular brakes.

You will have to change booster and also have it coded, they are both the same but calibrated differently for the ABS.New booster is supplied with the CCB retrofit kit.

You must be mad to sell the CCB. Plenty on this thread will take them off your hands though.

hi weavingtraffic , would you mind sharing what bimmerworld's reply was?

according to bimmerworld's website, it seems like booster doesn't need to be changed and coding is not required but they stated "For track use, brake bias can be compensated for with different pad compound".

It's actually more like 50lbs total!
  • OEM 2NH Brakes (Grey or Red Calipers)
  • Front Disk: 30.58lbs
  • Rear Disk: 24.91lbs
  • Carbon Ceramic Retrofit (Gold)
  • Front Disk: 16.16lbs
  • Rear Disk: 12.61lbs

Brake Savings: 53.44lbs
