I didn't think the primary cats effect the MOT? Or have I been ill informed?
Should be ok provided secondary cats are still doing their stuff

Does anyone know this for sure? The secondary cats are mainly for emissions control during cold start, until the primary cats are up to temperature, which is what I understand the cold start higher revs are for- warming up the cats ASAP.

So I've always understood that it's the primaries that count and secondary cats that can be removed without MOT hassle in a car. I've done that with my Boxster and it passed its MOT subsequently.

I'll certainly be fascinated to see how SteveChester gets on with his!

Yep I could take it to the guy that did the install as he does MOTs but I might take it to Halfords and see what they make of it

But interested to see if anyone else has done the downpipes - might post a question on cutters to see as well.

I'll see if I can get mine on the MOT testing machine. It may be a while, but I'll update this post in due course. Unless someone beats me to it...

I've found a place that does "pre mot" checks so taking it down Saturday to get it checked out emissions wise...

That's good. I can't get mine done until at least a week later now.
Please do update the thread with your results

Easy PASS today. It was well within the limits ( I have retained my secondary cats ) - and I watched him on the machine doing the test.

He did ask if it was decatted so I confessed. But he said no one is going to check as you'd have to remove the plastic engine guard on the underbody to see really.

So an M4 with the primary decats removed does pass an MOT . As stated above I do have my secondary cats in place so not sure if it would pass fully decatted - suspect not.

Also was still running stage 2 map.

Quite a few places on the web that buy old cats so have submitted a few requests to see what price I can sell them for.

Yep emissions well within limits. Unless they do a visual inspection and spot them missing, which they aren't going to do, you'll get a pass.
